Radio as a RP and survival tool in MP
Has anyone ever used radio communications to find another player survivor in multiplayer?
I always thought it was an awesome idea being able to communicate to others and having things like signal strength and equipment being a factor. Talking to someone from another town would really make the map feel huge to me.

But has this ever worked in practice? Have you ever not used the steam chat or discord or whatever to get in touch with another player? Text chatting in-game always feels clunky and not very optimized while playing with another player so was something I never stayed with for long. It feels like a damn shame because the radio feature is such an awesome idea.

So has anyone ever challenged themselves to find another survivor via in-game means only (and not global chat)? Or is it just kinda pointless to you? It really adds to the immersion in my opinion so I hope I can fiind people playing this way.

Here's a cool visual representation of radio range distance I found on Reddit:

Its really tough to accomplish this in game so many different channels. Best way we have found on our server is to set a general channel or freq to use for the server so if everyone is on the same channel it increases the chances of getting someone on the radio

I'm pretty sure the Redboid server enforces chat by radio. Using the global chat was frowned upon last time I was there (few years back).

I was hoping someone who runs a server would chime in! The difficulty to me is actually what attracts me to the feature quite a bit!

It's definitely roleplaying in the long-play potential, but i play the singleplayer with long-play in mind anyway! The whole risk and reward element when playing with others is great in this game, and having a very grounded means of establishing contact puts extra weight to that i think.

I imagine myself playing in a server for weeks or months by myself trying to survive. I leave messages all over town with my frequency. In my daily routine at my base I go to my radio shack where I broadcast a repeated message calling for anyone who would hear. And one day someone replies. What goes on from there is another chapter but that's the beauty in what the game offers us.

Do your encounters follow a similar nature? I've never properly played in a public server before. This is great insight thanks!

Do you look for that realism in your roleplaying with others? Or is that a little excessive to you? I've only got 100+ hrs in this game and it's all singleplayer so I know nearly nothing on the MP front.

I'll have to check if there are any lists of public servers that'll let me play out my little radio shack hermit post apoctalyptic fantasy!

We have global chat disabled in our server. Its listed in the servers section of the forums. PZRP Reborn. Its been slow lately but trying to build our population up again.
