When to pull stitches?

Title says it all. I got a deep wound from an NPC I had to stitch up. Now I wonder, when do I pull the stitches out? Or do they just disappear?

I usually pull stitches out after a week or so. There's no hurry taking them out. You will need some bandaging afterwards, because you will get scratched after removing stitches.
