Isnt surviving after electricity /water shut off a chore?
After electricity and water shut off we have to refill generator with gas and repair it constantly (and need electronic scraps for that) to keep refrigerators running, then go cut trees for fire to cook and boil water daily, water your plants daily etc. There are so many things to do just to survive that day, it seems for me there is not much left to go exploring etc. Isnt it boring at that stage?

Nah, thought it can be a bit tedious.
For instance you need to make sure your are not overgrown...random migration still can come towards you.
You may miscalculate your food supplies etc.
I am in mid october now. 2 stamin and 3 str (from 0/0).

I finally managed to make my place look like as i wanted ...well mostly. I still need to raise my metalworking to make some roof tiles, but beside that i am mostly good. Though it got a lot harder now going out to the "lootable" part of Muldraough.

Good job! Any tips for easier time after shut off? Which food to collect etc?

Tip #1: Boil more water than you need for any given day. Put every full bottle, bowl, pot, and cup in to cook at the same time.

Tip #2: If you have power (generator), cook using a stove or microwave, then you won't have to find wood for the campfire.

Running a generator 24/7 is probably a ton of chore, but you don't need it.

You can plant one or two squares of vegetables every other day or so, so once it's grown you'll have fresh vegetables every other day, you don't need a fridge for them.

For water you can put a rain collector on the roof and connect it to a sink beneath it. That'll clear the water for you (somehow..); as long as you don't waste it too much there should be eough rain that you don't have to worry about clean water at all.

Instead of cutting firewood you can use an electric stove to cook, if you only turn on your generator to cook it should last for months without repairs or refueling.

I almost never farm but I don't think you have to water plants daily, once every 2-3 days should be enough, and that's if there isn't any rain.

I check my traps every other day and prepare food from what I got, that's pretty much all the chore I do regularly :)

A single fridge will require 0.13 L of gas per hour. With 3 lights your consumption with the generator should be 0.16 L /hours.
That is 24 days of constant working of the generator. The more refrigerators you use, or more industrial kinds the higher the consumption.
Generally speaking i would say try to keep it under around 0.595 L/hour consumption as that would give you a whole week of generator running.

If you are able to operate a generator you likely can repair it too! (level 1 electric skill is enough definetly) And it is good electric xp too. I gain like 4.5 with the skill books per 4 % repair.
Basicly when you refill the genny with gas you repair it a bit too. For every electric component you repair 4 %. So dismantling radios, watches and tv-s is important!

Keep one generator turned off by the gas station of your choice. Only turn it on when you go there for gas, thereafter dont forget to turn it off.(IT will consume the gas, and LURE all the zeds to that place!)

Farming, the best option are: Cabbage and Potatoes. Add to the mix a bit of mushrooms if you are able to and you should be good. Either trap or fish. (Trapping can be tricky as you need 150 tiles from "urban" tiles.) but if you can catch rabbits with cabbase bait you are basicly set.

Remember to keep food in the freezer if possible. If something lost the FRESH tag as food, cook it, boil it, fry it whaterver. Thereafter place it into the freezer, and only take it out when you know you will eat it within 8 hours.(Or will eat from it)

Farming: With cabbage and potatoe you are set. A cabbage has one 15 and one 8 or so tile. So each cabbage can be used twice. Potatoe has one 18 and 2 part. If you cook these tiles will improve a bit. (So for instance 15 fresh bunny meat, 18 potatoe, 15 cabbage, and each of this twice with salt and pepper, and you get from the original around 96 around 117-124 food worth after cooking.)

Canned food. Any canned or processed food is best kept for as long as possible. If you are going out on loot ventures, take beans, dog food and mac and cheese with you.
At your base. Cook. For multiple days if possible, so you just need to remove the food from the fridge/freezer. Make stirred fry-es if possible. Stew can be a good choice, but the weight is terrible. One stew can weigh 7 pounds! Takes up too much space. If you got yeast, flour make bread, make bunny burgers, with cabbage and tomatos. Easy 50-80 food worth burgers can be made this way.(With three bread you have 9 burgers and easier to carry them!)

Water: Depends where you are. If you are in Riverside or WP, you should take advantage of the river, fishing wise and water wise.
Anywhere else all them cooking pots you find? Place them outdoors to gather rain water. You will need to boil it so you can also make stew or soup if you want.(Not worth it though)
Empty bottles and water boilers, very tood to store cleansed rainwater. You can stock up this way, though it can be troublesome to store them. Since they weigh a lot.

No worries, am still doing Muldraugh 0/0 challenge. Allmost on level 2 with stamina around 1500 xp to go for str 4(!) and not even november yet.
I managed to make the place i live relatively safe. I went out with four trap boxes and for a few days i hoarded bunnies.(If i was lucky, i also gained a decent amount of skill in trapping!)
Basicly you need to go as far as where the rain tracks intersect with the road. Place down the trap box on the east side first, thereafter once you dont seem to catch a thing then on the west side.

Sadly i lost my edge with the short knife with my new mouse i need to practice it more. Just today I had super luck twice. Triggered the 1hit kill move, which i DID NOT WANT to trigger, I heard each time the bite or scratch sound, but avoided it!
(I went out with crafted axes to get axe to level 3 course both broke fast, and also to clear a bit to set up multiple forward bases eventually, and also to obtain a car key, two others i still cant. Will need to set up the bases first, but might be i'll do that after winter. Getting sometimes quite chilly and sometimes still 20 C)

Also gather as many sacks as possible. They will come handy when you want to fight the as to say NATURAL SUPER GROWTH. I literally have removed all soil and sand from my base, floored everything beside a minor place where i can gather. (Stones and wood.)
I got a genny and thus a working electric oven, i still took with me a BBQ stove which i placed outside. I made all the outer walls for my base, so next time prolly when i get back i plaster it. Thereafter i need to go north to dismantle all the wrecks as there is none left south of Muldraugh at Xroads. And gather all the sheet metal i left behind. I have 2 fully operational welders, and i know three places where i can find propaine tanks. (Getting to them though is no easy feat, again fwd bases.)

After floowboarding all the place by my base, i poured out sand and soil. Making a noticeable garden. is just 5x4 but is more than enough. (Tomato, Carrot, Potatoe and Cabbage...wish we could do CORN!) Will probably make around it a small metal fence too. (Wood sadly hides how much is their growth:( )

Oh also dont forget to improve your mech skills. But remember just because a car seems trashed, it might be the best car you found ever! Engine quality just matters this much. (I found one with 98!, a bulldriver!) When you improve your mech skills, take out the accumulators, the radio and the tirese on level 1. And the seats, if you can leave everything else. Then on level 3 you can take out the brakes, the windows and so on. each time just take out what you can with 100%. Be carefull to NEVER risk parts that are in good condition. (The only exception is engine, if the engine has less than 20 in quality, try to move it first to some place where you can use it as a blockade, and thereafter take it apart.)

Oh and a final tip but this is more aesthetic. If you remove the soil around your home base, and floorboard it, there will not be any of those wall climbing thingies growing. Saves you time and the building will not deteroirate that far.
Once done you can put sand or cement over the floorboard.(For aesthetics!)

Thanks again for your help! I'll try my luck in Riverside, will settle in the gated community near the river. I'll try fishing, farming and foraging to stay alive.
Nordil(Hun) Aug 10, 2020 @ 12:32pm
With the gated community be careful, it is not easy to make it a safe zone. You need about 8 or more cars.

You should probably go to the wreckers as a start, easier to clear and defend too. You can have the trailer later renovated, or add further rooms to it. You will have mutliple wrecks and cars to improve skills. The river is not that far, and a few houses nearby to be able to loot furniture as well. You have 2 gas stations within walking distance, and you can also reach a third semi-safish gas station from there.
But still gotta be carefull there.

Actually i would say first settle in the wreckers, do a few scout runs towards the grated community, and or try to leave there crappy cars as blockades. Easiest to block is the three houses on the south, and/or the six houses that have two entry gates.
