Ways to train strength/fitness?
It appears the old "build a 1x1 room with a window next to a tree and shove it for 30 days straight" technique has been severely nerfed, mostly because you can't fast forward time while shoving anymore but also I think the xp gain has been reduced.

I usually like to build my character's with rlly low strength and fitness so I've got more starting points for long term quality of life traits, plus seeing them grind from a wimp to a chad is pretty satisfying for me. So what are some other ways I can train strength and fitness? I've heard the xp rate for fighting zombies is way higher than the old tree trick, but I'm still it's still very slow going.

Well i started a guy with 0/0 str and stamina. Currently reaching october(2 days left) and 3 str and 1 stamina now. (Halfway towards level 2 stamina, and around 3200/9000 str for level 4)

Chopping wood is generally a good idea. Fighting also works, especially if you just keep shoving off a zombie. Is similar to the old trick with the shove the tree(which i never used, i just tested it out in the past once and now to give feedback how nerfed now it is), riskier, but more rewarding.
Walking encumbered also helps. Basicly for around every 50 tiles or so you travel you get 1,4 xp to str. During heavy rain days you can do it when you have nothing to read. Allthough might need a decent sized place to fast forward the walking. (Not sure if the str xp gain is increased if you are WAY over your encumbarance though!)

Fitness, well no clue really. Fighting with nimble and something else increases your fitness, but also does walking. (Like for every 100-200 tile you get like 1?)
Running still works, but again you need a decent sized place to run around. Though i have not been doing that much. Got bored of it while i gained a mere 3 xp.
All i know that basicly fitness gain is somewhere around for every 9 str experience points or so i gain 2 points of fitness xp.

0 str/stamina can you still open windows and push over zombies?
Nordil(Hun) Aug 3, 2020 @ 9:52pm
Open windows, yes. But only if they are unlocked. Force open is nearly impossible.
I can push away zombies, but them falling down, well that is 1 in a 100 tries:)
But I was able to level up to 1 stamina and 3 str already. I am halfway to level 2 in stamin and 1/3 to level 4 str.

I do that every time, might be difficult in the begining but your character is so powerful a few month later.

I'm still exploring build 40 before going to IWBUMS, so things may have change.

I'm in november and I got 6 Strength and 5 fitness.
I trained maybe one day pushing a tree to pass a level but nothing more.
Not sure but I think that "my training" is fighting Zeds (almost 4000 kill atm).

Everytime you push something (tree zombie whatever) you get 1 fitness xp and maybe 1.5 strenght xp (strength depend on some things but I don't what and I don't treally care).
Same with weapons, swing at something and look at your xp.

Ballsy build, not sure I'd want to go through that rough start. So what do u put points into?
Vertibird Aug 4, 2020 @ 9:21am
I always start with max str and fitness. Its impossible to max otherwise.

I use "obese" too.

I'm not saying this is the best build at all, it's just the way I like to play.
Killing a single zed require madman stomping. I died within the first day on my 5 firsts attempt, and 5 other time within one month, but my last two attempt when smoothly and I became a pro at kitting and killing zeds with any weapon (and a lot of patience).

True, that way I'll never be able to max strenght or fitness, or at least I'll die before.
But it allows me to progress to the same strenght/fitness ratio as any "basic character", and the firsts levels are pretty easy to pass since they require less xp.

I actually wasted a lot of points on the Metal worker, just to try it out.
Usually i go with burger flipper for the maintenance bonus.
I take underweight instead of obese. Allthough in IWBUMS prolly the obese is better, cuz it is harder to gain weight than in 40!

Also fighting wise IWBUMS is VERY different.
So when you switch be ready that you need to relearn stuff. (I actually would say 0/0 str and stamina is way easier in ver 40.)

Try out IWBUMS and you see, why folks are really afraid of reduced str and stamina:)

Yeah, I dont really like starting with reduced STR and Fitness anymore in build 41. It makes for a VERY brutal start.
It was how I liked playing as well, but I could not get a run started since the animation update.

I would really love to see a way to train STR and Fitness because those are 2 very vital stats to have. I think it is kind of ridicolous how long it takes to reach average STR with a character, if you start from 0. IRL your muscle gains are so ridicolous, if you start working out a bit until you start plateuing later on. Even a pretty weak character should become somewhat muscular within a reasonable time (not 6 months ingame time!).

Please give my character an option to do push-ups for STR gains every day. Perhaps this could be combined with overtraining, higher food consumption, tiredness, exhaustion, etc. So if you are safe enough, you can train - what any reasonable surivor would do in a zombie apocalypse btw. It feels very artificial fighting zombies for the sole purpose of STR and Fitness gains.

Haha yeah I'm expecting it to be !
I saw things like you can't push more than one zed at a time, the character turn slowly etc ...

I'll do it anyway, I'll be the FATTEST, WEAKEST MF in a zombie apocalypse that ever existed, and I'LL SURVIVE :p

I saw a mod for that in the workshop if you"re interested, and it's taking into account everything you said, including losing fat and gaining muscle mass I think.

Be careful though, the growth of trees is getting ridiculous. Basicly muldrough is looking more like a forest at the start of october. And thus it seriously hinders your fighting abilities, no places to backtrack fight, huge hordes congregate, and even if you lure away all the zombies from a place, within minutes, sometimes seconds, they just fill the empty space up again.
The tree growth is ridiculous, they rip your cloth, slower you movement MORE than any ofthe zombies...so you can be grabbed while passing through a tree.

I am literally getting forced to cut down every tree nearby remove the soil and make wooden floor boards. (Since i cant make concrete even though i have like 20 pounds already!)
For three days i have been clearing my base of soil and trees now, and i am still nowhere near the end of it....Make that 10 days for now.

Also, it seems that now there is a huge difference between crude axes(sharp stone made) and normal axes. Yey:) Now it is worth to use axes to chop down trees! The only issue is it is not giving you any bonus to your axe-skill or handling. Nada.:(

Oh and wood chopping seems to give a nice boost to your fitness gain too!
Not that much, but it makes the Fitness gain someplace around 2 points for every 8.4-8.6 str point gain. Instead of the 2 points for every 9 point!
