Does this game have a story?
Like story missions and a ending or its just a survival game?

yes the story is about who you died , but no there is no story in the way you think in other game, you make your own story.

I can't wait. I can see it now, a convoluted series leads will take you from hidden military base to hidden military base, upon conclusion you'll piece together a way to cure the outbreak, so you cobble together the cure, take it within five hours of drinking a fourth of wine, and die... But your corpse stays on the ground.

Not yet, but you can listen to TVs and radios to get an idea of what's going on, you can find a transcript of every transmission on Google but I recommend experiencing them in-game

There were scenarios in the past, I reckon they could re-implement those. First time I tried the demo, I was basically tore down by the horde along with the wife, good times but that death scream aint going anywhere soon.

NPCs will be a big part of that, so you can't really have one without the other.

It's a classic tale. Wake up. See zombies. Flee zombies. Fight zombies. Die from zombies. Be zombie. Something for everyone, but mostly for the zombies. Seriously though the story is your survival or lack thereof.

Sort of.

If you tune the radios and TV channels early on you can read what's going on with the infection and the outside world.

But there's no concrete story mode nor story objective. So it's purely a sandbox.

There are. Just no main quest that babies you to do something and telling you where to go.
