Plsss help me figure out why my base isn't considered indoors?
I'm like 2+ months in and have invested sooo many hours & resources working on this two-story house above the Knox bank in Westpoint (and time is also set to a day = 2 hours) but I've only JUST realized that literally nothing but my tiny generator room is considered indoors (excluding my kitchen/storage in the bank itself).

Some screenshots (pardon the res I am potato man):

Both rooms are 100% walled and floored/roofed in with windows installed, stairs are walled off and have doors (minus the tops of those leading to balconies), I placed pillars in every corner and even went completely overboard by placing pillars between every segment of wall possible but I'm still getting rained on and starting to get wind chill etc, currently just sleeping in a tent in the bank with my woodstove.. Oh and I've also tried flooring in my sheet rope holes to no avail.

And yes I'm aware my garden is a mess don't @ me bro. :')

But in all seriousness pls help me, this is extremely depressing and makes base building feel like a complete waste of time.. :steamsad:

Oh and this is build 40 because yeah, potato..

Also I started the pillars in every segment thing earlier on because I heard it was the only way to prevent spawns in my base, is that even true and could that possibly be messing with things here? :hopsyflopsy:

That's weird, theorically if you have your roof fully done and walls/doors all around, it should be good. Or at least, with the roof, you shouldn't get rain on you. Maybe it's because the floor is too high (only the 2 first floors get protected maybe) ?

Or, because the pre-existing structure floor isn't considered the same (and then the rain/wind comes from below... ?)

Make sure your place is roofed good and that there are no open windows or anything.

You kind of need to create stairs specifically for laying the roof then come back later with a sledgehammer to knock it down. If you need to get back up, sheet rope can be connected to a wooden fence or window frame.

See I was originally thinking the same thing about the height but I spoke with a streamer last night whose built similarly on the exact same building so I've ruled that one out.

Was also concerned about the pre-existing roof thing in advance so I went over the whole thing with wood floor before even putting the decorative flooring in so that shouldn't be an issue either..

The place is totally roofed, 100% sure about that, and every window has an actual wooden window installed (I've tried closing them all too although it shouldn't make a difference)..

As far as the stairs go like.. They're completely walled off inside and out? Including the ones coming up from the kitchen. I've seen plenty of people have multiple staircases setup in a similar fashion without issue, sometimes without even walling them off.

That said, I think for now I'm going to try getting rid of all the excess pillars I placed and reinstall the primary corner ones only (because as I understand it they are the final "I dub thee indoors" sorta thing), if that doesn't work I suppose I'll try knocking out the stairs.

Thx a lot and keep the suggestions coming.

So I just tried all that stuff and no luck.. Destroyed all the pillars and replaced only the corner ones, then knocked out and floored/roofed off all the stairs + sheet rope holes. Weather was decent today so I tested by placing the generator around with windows shut etc. Was gonna try walling myself in a box with the generator but it won't let me build the final wall from the inside. I dunno man this is so depressing.. :steamsad:

Destroy one of the downstairs walls then place it back.

Forgot to mention it but that's one of the first things I tried actually, did it with a wall on each side.

I'm starting to wonder if it's actually possible to get indoor conditions above 2 floors or something but I can't seem to find any info about that, most people seem to just retrofit a pre-existing and already "indoors" second story and then do a roof garden etc. Like I know you can build up to 8 stories and that 4-5 story buildings exist in game but yeah, maybe it doesn't register when it's player built or some ♥♥♥♥? I dunno. I have to go do christmas stuff in a while but I think I'm gonna try building a little 4x4 on the roof behind me just to see what happens because I realized my little 1x1 generator room actually isn't considered indoors like I thought it was, even when I pop a proper glass window in. No idea anymore..

The ONLY pillar you should place is on the bottom left corner (per the screen view).

A floor, walls, ceiling must then completely enclose the space with no openings at all. That means no openings for stairs or ropes.

I am not positive, but I think windows and doors need to be installed in their openings as well.

Perhaps doors and windows need to be closed too? Not sure.

It doesn't matter. No matter what you do it's not considered indoors. The fact of the matter is that they haven't implemented that code yet; whatever is necessary to distinguish a player built house from the outside world, that is. You can confirm this by taking the agoraphobic trait, getting the necroforge mod, and then simply giving yourself all the carpentry skill needed to build stairs, the rooftop, whatever. No matter what you do, agoraphobic will proc inside the house just like it will outside of it. It's either an oversight from the devs or they're planning to implement it. Either way, don't worry about it because you won't get it to work.

I made a suggestion on the suggestion topic section here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/108600/discussions/2/2653115517060842598/

so idk if you have found a solution but try putting a wood fence in your building some ware. it worked for me when I was doing a build. hope it works for you. good luck.

These guys might not even be playing anymore. Those saves are long gone if they are still actively playing.

My dude, this thread is from almost three years ago

and for anyone reading this in 2022+, you don't need to place the corner post any more. it auto places when you make a corner. its a different game since then. evolving.

Nah this is from back in build 40 when no matter what you did, homes you built outside would never be considered "inside". I even built the corner post too. So didn't work. But, I believe they fixed it so whatever.

Nah I still play :spiffo:

Got some friends into it too.

EDIT: Altho I took a long break before build 41 MP finally came out. That's what brought me back in (and my friends into it, not coincidentally).
