Can you remove bullets from a magazine?
Hey all, I’m playing with normal reload difficulty and haven’t been able to figure out how to remove bullets from a 9mm magazine. So far, I’ve been able to load bullets just fine. From your experience as well, is it worth taking the magazines from guns you find but don’t intend to use or is it a bit of a waste of time?

Haven’t played the game in a year or two and the tutorial doesn’t cover firearms so I’m a bit stuck. Thought maybe it’s a matter of racking the gun repeatedly and the ejected bullets would land on the ground or in your inventory but that doesn’t seem to be an option.
Cheers everyone 😊

Firearms need some reigning in and their ability to be useful. As it stands right now (in my opinion) the risk/reward factor doesn't justify the ammount of ammo it takes to get aiming skill high enough to be useful. Not only do you have to contend with the fact that when you fire a shot every zombie in 5 miles hears it and comes shambling in that direction, you also have to contend with the fact that you need an ample amount of ammo to gain a skill so you can even hit your target.

It should be that you've found a rare item, and that item brings a risk factor (in bringing zombies to said location) at the reward of being able to dispatch them from a distance and put a dent in the Zed population. That being said I do like the realism in that anyone who picks up a gun isn't going to be an ace marksmen in real life, but aiming down a barrel will get you somewhere on a target.

I made a suggestion (in suggestions) on an idea to add a new mechanic around aiming that takes away the RNG of aiming and replaces it with a sway option that's more in tune with breathing and natural body movements that could be improved as a skill and relies more on player skill to learn the mechanic to be successful with firearms.

If you right click the magazine in your inventory there should be an unload magazine option

That's really cool. Yeah I totally agree on being torn between established game design standards and a commitment to realism. A local small town fry-cook or nurse probably wouldn't be ready to go John Wick on day zero of the munchies apocalypse and everyone understands that, non-the-less it would be fun to have it be a more viable option. I've never really found a reason to use the firearms much in the game but it could be a fun character to play, if a little messy ;)

Yeah until the feature that shall not be named is in, guns only serve a few purposes. 1. Clear your way for an emergency escape. Which really applies more to the shotgun specifically. And 2. To pull zeds from an area that you wanna loot. I use this all the time in West Point. Go just outside of town and fire a few rounds off and loop back in and hit the Gigamart or something similar.

I just lured everything trom lower Riverside(the warehouses and car shop) to my base with a single rifle shot, to the wreckers!
I think i killed about 300 zombies or so, eventually i just stopped wasting bullets and just used spears, still took over 3 days to kill all of them. Got to level 3 with shooting (made a sawed off and used 48 bullets) and got to 1.5 in spears:)
