Use a sheet rope on a balcony railing?

So the sheet rope can only be nailed to windows and nothing else? I found a 2 story nature lodge type place away from town, (it also has an outdoor stage with rows of benches for an audience to sit) and decided to make it my base for now, but the only 2nd story windows are on a balcony. I don't see an option to attach a sheet rope to the railing of the balcony.

Honestly for the first time ever while playing this game I realized I could move furniture and stuff around. I've been blocking windows and doors with boxes and trash cans (which I can't walk through because of collision box, so I assume zombies can't walk through or climb over them and reach the windows and doors) I did find a bug that if you place and object right against a window, you can just clip right through the object and it loses it's collision. So to properly block windows on the outside with objects you need 3 to sort of fence in the window.

The window thing that allows you and zeds to clip through normally solid objects isn't a bug. It's just how it works so you and the zeds can access windows.
