How do you break into vehicles?

I *once* had a right-click prompt to break a car window, but can't seem to get it to show up regularly. Is there something I'm missing?

Also, is it right that *every* car is out of fuel when you find it?

I haven't tried breaking through a car window in a month or so, but last time i tried it didn't work. I seem to recall it was possible before.

As for the fuel level in cars, if you're playing in Custom Sandbox mode check your settings, as you can control that. If you're not in Custom Sandbox you may just be having a run of bad luck. I'm currently playing in Survivor mode and after checking about 4 or 5 cars I found one with a tank 3/4 full.

May need a blunt weapon equipped? Not sure it's right-click anymore. IIRC last time i tried, i could just swing a weapon to smash the window (and damage the door along, but anyways).

Most cars are out of fuel yep, but then fuel is not so hard to come by if you power a gas pump with a generator (in sandbox at least, unsure if the default settings allow that).

Sometimes you have to right click several times on the car to get the "smash window" button to come up, the car's hitbox/select box is not as big as the vehicle, but it might take a few clicks. The easer way is to just have any weapon equipped and just swing at the window and it will break that way. Also if you do right click to smash window make sure to have a weapon equipped because if you are unarmed you break it with your elbow and you will get lacerated. I once died that way because it became infected. Good Times.

The best way I've found to get the menu up fairly consistently, is stand in the green rectangle of the door of the window you want to smash, right click the car on the other side of the vehicle. Sometimes you still ahve to click a few different places, it's a bit sketchy

When I swung a weapon, it sounded/seemed like I was pounding on the car itself (didn't break a window like a house does). Every car I've found so far has had no fuel. Every single one.

Saw that sandbox setting and will definitely use that in future.

You can break windows from the mechanic menu as well. Just right click on the window you'd like to smash.

Thanks, the mechanics window is a good workaround. A pain that it takes time to open it, but I always get the option for that menu as opposed to almost never getting the "break window" on right clicking.

Still either unlucky or a bug that not a single vehicle has any fuel in it!
