Multiplayer sync issues
Howdy!

So a friend of mine has his own server, with a static IP. He's set up a PZ server and we can see him and connect. There's usually no trouble when first connecting.

Now, after a session of gaming (lets say with 3 people, including the server owner) we take a break. When we try to connect several hours later, trouble begins.

The server owner can always connect. But the others can't anymore. They find the server, steam authentication works, but when joining it says 'doing checksum' and then 'timed out' or sometimes 'failed to establish a p2p connection'.

Rebooting the server didn't help. However, when we connect with a new char, it sometimes does work.. The prior charachters seem bugged, or out of sync?

It's really bugging me out.. We want to keep playing with our chars, but this way it's playing, because we can't reuse our existing chars.

The server owner is an IT guy and I'm positive he knows his stuff, but he's also frustrated, he can't think of anything else to fix this.

I've been googling a lot, and it seems this issue happens with others as well, but none of them found a solution.

Cam anyone help out? Has anyone else had this issue, or found any solutions/workarounds?

It seems very likely a sync issue, where the existing chars are out of sync with the server..

Sorry, but we got nothing. We (TheReckless.net) host a public server and haven't had these problems. At least not as far as I know (I'm just an admin though...).
Are you using mods or are you in a vanilla state?

No mods, completely vanilla. It's been a mystery to us as well.. And it happens every time. I can reconnect directly after disconnecting, but if there's a few hours in between connections, things go wrong.

The server owner can still get in easily, but everyone else can't. Super strange.. Also frustrating because we want to do some long term survivaling :)

And they are hosting privately or publicly? If they are hosting privately, I might say try hosting publicly or vice verse.
Other than that, the only thing that comes to mind (for me) is the possibility that it is the ISP causing problems for you. For example, after the end of Net Neutrality in recent times, my ISP now blocks me from using port forwarding and so I can't host a public server for many games. Could be an ISP issue.

Did you change any server settings? I think there could be an option that would cause this, I would keep AutoCreateUserInWhiteList=true for example and such.

Nope, nothing changed at all, that's what's so weird. I'll let my friend know about the setting you mentioned, perhaps it helps.

So good news-ish, turns out that autocreateuserinwhitelist was set to false. Would setting it to true change much?

Could you think of any other settings that can make a difference?

I would set it to true, I cannot say which settings would help from the top of my head but I will have a look later. Try this setting for now and see if that helps with anything.
