All vehicles high RPM and will not shift past 3rd
I just started having this issue today. I have looked everywhere for a report or fix to this but can't find one. I am on version 40.30.

I have been playing this game all week in both multiplayer and single player and have not had this issue. We decide wipe our MP game and restart and now all the vehicles are super loud, run very high RPM, and will not shift past 3rd gear. This is only happen for me. The other players who connect to my hosted game do not seem to have this issue. What can I do?

It seems like you took the sunday driver trait. Which drastically reduces your vehicle performance. Nothing else stands out as the issue's cause. The only other option is you are driving vehicles with very little horse power.

So reviewed both my single player game and the new MP game and the only difference is my character has the +1 positive fast driver perk. If this is what that perk does then it is severely broken IMO. There is no way 2 or 3x the noise and staying at high RPM in third on all vehicles is worth that... After deleting and creating a character without that trait, all is back to normal...

Prefacing this with: I personally don't know jack about cars, so if I have some sort of misconception about it, correct me.

I just tested this and indeed it wasn't the Sunday driver but the Speed Demon trait causing you to be locked in 3rd gear for some reason. My impression of driving was that you usually wouldn't stay that long in 1st gear either.
Will address this internally to make sure it gets looked at eventually.

Speed Demon and Sunday Driver seem incredibly imbalanced to me, right now. Geras pointed out their fuel consumption before:

https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/24440-4026-update-speed-demon-and-sunday-driver-perks-fuel-economy-suggestions/

His suggestions seem pretty much in line with what I would personally expect of them, as well as making further improvements to them that I'd love to see.
Speed Demon comes with too many negatives to be a positive trait, in my opinion.

Until this is addressed, I'd personally avoid the two traits like the plague.

I agree and I think an additional description of the positive/negative aspects of the traits would assist people more. Speed demon is definitely not a positive with the max loudness side effect. As for speed demon being the cause, I have been using it for months now (stuck with it in my play through) and I have not noticed this issue. Hence I believed it was sunday driver. Good to know none the less.

For driving first gear is good until about 10-15 mph and in game it lasts until 30mph. Also the speed of vehicles is "off" 30 mph looks like 10 and 120 mph looks like 60. A reduction in speedo needle increase with speed would adjust this problem with a little testing.

Signs on the highway would also greatly help when driving. Side roads would be less likely to have signs other than a stop sign for dead stops.

Ah I see. I only gave it a quick go with Speed Demon and it shifted up way too late and was basically stuck in 3rd gear. Wasn't a long road though so I couldn't say if it ever eventually shifts up, but 3rd gear was certainly in for way too long, same for 1st.

The team is currently all busy with the animation update, but we've added this to the list, though it's a low priority for now.

Road signs are definitely a good idea and something we're going to add, though I have no timeframe on that for now.

I don't see how 'road signs' would work, to be honest. Anytime you are driving 'downwards', you would never see the sign from the point of view the player is stuck with. The sign would be facing away from you, the player.

Distinct shapes; acting as a landmark rather than an open stretch of road with nothing on it.

Or the signs and just be double sided.
I think painted white arrows in the road to point out upcoming turns, or intersections, might be better, considering the limitations of the viewpoint, and the game.

I just stack two sets of boxes on both sides of the road before the turns. Seems to work well enough.

A sign with a certain shape would work fine, as well, I think. There are no other signs, so after seeing them driving north or west, you'd recognize them from behind too.
They'd have to be too far in advance to be painted on the road, in my opinion.

Well, in my opinion, with the very distant "zoom out" I get, they would not need to be that far away from the turn. But I guess most players do not get very good zoom out. That would be the problem they have.

As for the signs, the game is based in Kentucky USA. I take it your not going to make US traffic signs, since you would not know what they were from the back. And they are never displayed double sided.

If you do something with signs, I can only hope it will not be done half-baked and unrealistic.

I think an optional forward zoom setting when driving would good as well. Like the optional zoom percentage for the character camera the player can choose how far forward the cam moves when driving fast. At times I really wish the camera would be further forward so breaking had more time to be used.

Well you know... the USA doesn't need to use double faced road signage because we don't happen to drive on the wrong side of the road....
bwahahahaha :steammocking:

Guess you have never drove on a single highway in the US then. There are double signs everywhere on the sides of the road and above it...
