Worms probably work the best for bird traps. You need to leave them alone for a while to catch anything. How often are you visiting the area the traps are in? Visit too often and you will scare the birds away.

every day or 2

One day is fine. I think the timer is 1/2 day or it resets.

If you have no skill in trapping, that may be why you catch little. But you should be catching something often enough to raise your skill. Reading the appropriate skill book will increase the experience you get when you do catch something, making the skill level faster.

The bird trap and mouse trap are about the only thing you can trap with when you have no skill.

Have not done trapping for a little bit, but last time, I got birds with stick traps, using worms, and rabbits in the box ones using cabbages, now my traps were way far away from my base, near a werehouse somewhere, I always caught stuff, had a lot of traps mind you, but by the time I drove there checked and put new bait in every trap, really became a chore.

But only took placing traps, driving home, do whatever sleep, get up go check on traps, get little animals, add bait, drive home, and repeat, got well got boring in away, as I was always worried about checking traps, ended up not doing much of anything else.

I mean in if something were to happen like this in rl, I guess that would make sense you need food. But from what I have read and seen on you tube vids, rotten food won't work.

I think my biggest problem was, I caught stuff, but put traps in so remote place so i did not have to worry about getting caught of guard by a zed sneaking threw the trees, it took most of my time going back and forth, it was all I could do.

In short stick traps use worms, other traps use cabbage. Place far enough away from you base, and one day will be enough.

Can not wait till hunting is a thing. Even though I do not hunt in rl.

Also make sure your traps are (I think) 75 tiles from your location. If they are in your back yard you won’t have much luck.

Yeah put them 75 tiles away and they refresh every hour https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Trapping#Traps has the info on baits tiles that have the most chance of catching that certain animal

Bird traps are doing really well. I leave for 1-2 days to go foraging and come back. 2/3 have birds. Use worms!

I know I've seen that "75 tiles" guidance somewhere else, but it doesn't seem to make sense. How do you define "your location" and where do you measure those 75 tiles from? I have a base in one of the McCoy Logging buildings. The buildings are big, but the area I'm using inside the building is kinda small. So will traps not work if they are within 75 tiles from *any part* of the building? What if I haven't even started building a base and am still moving all over the map?

I’m not sure if the exact mechanics, so I usually just put any traps far enough away from anything.
