The key is to make your total weight less than 10.
But, I also don't think this will work. You'll probably still be over 10 with one part equipped. I think the devs should implement setting up furniture when pieces are near each other on the ground, like you can with planks when building.
I had once used all the dumpsters in Westpoint to secure the back alley area near the live-in restaurant downtown, and I seem to remember being able to move one piece of dumpster at a time, putting both parts in the same area, then being able to place it.
pickup one piece walk where you want it. Use "transfer all" to drop on flour. then go get other piece and then you can build it in place. Transfer all was to only way i could figure out how to drop a part of it on the ground. might be other way but this worked for me.
