I cook, because i want the apocalypse to taste good.

Keeps unhappiness down. Unhappiness causes actions to take longer.

As stated a cooked meal with a couple ingredients is going to boost your happiness up some. And stave off boredom as well.

You can look a the food stats to see what the differences are.

Does cooking stuff within soups and stews not increase the amount of nutrition you get from the ingredients, compared to eating the same stuff raw?

Raising the Cooking skill allows you to increase your crafted food's hunger reduction. In addition, raising your cooking skill to level 4 allows you to make soups and stews with rotten ingredients.

Plus you want to cook and eat all the spoilable stuff before electricity gets shut off and save all your nonperishables for winter.

I wouldn't rely on the wikipedia for much information. That was before build 31. Now it's 8 cooking that allows use of a bit of rotten ingredients.

Op is right tho. A lot of skills are pretty useless right now (First aid, cooking, metalworking)

Is it 8? I thought it was max level in cooking that allowed that. I'll have to do some testing later to be sure.

I think so. I've never even reached that high cooking. Even after 6 month games. Would be nice if cooking skill had a much bigger effect on hunger reduction. Right now you barely see a difference.

High cooking skill is great! It helps turn Fish/Mushroom/Veggie stirfries into 100+ hunger reduction masterpieces.

It also helps reduce any need of antidepressants or ways to reduce boredom. Plus, as any good cook knows: Just because you can survive off of the basics, doesn't mean you're living with the best food you can produce!

About the only time my toon eats cooked meals is when on MP and there is a cook present.
But I do agree with all the other posts about cooked food. Personally, I find having to cook taking too much time in the game. You need a heat source, pots/pans, and ingredients. I would rather build a base, or loot buildings. Killing zombies also makes my toon happy and engaged.

Metalworking isn't so much useless as redundant.

Metalworking isn't so much useless as redundant.

The problem is that the metal fences/walls are only slightly stronger than the tier 3 wooden ones. like maybe 25-30% stronger I think? I'd like those metal ones to be much stronger.

I know I will probably always be taking Metalworking when they buff it/add weaponcrafting to it.

Fishing and cooking go hand in hand, I never tried pulling a fish out of the water and just biting into it, although some fish can be eaten that way there are a lot that will make you sicker than sick if you don't put in at least some preperation.

If cooking is useless, then what do you think about first aid?
dragonsphotoworks Feb 7, 2020 @ 10:41am
