How can I rest in the wilderness?
I have a dilemma. I'm in the middle of the woods after a helicopter came and forced me to leave my safehouse. I have very few supplies, and my character is exerted after running for a while. I can't fight my way back to the safehouse because I'm too exhausted, and I can't rest without something to sit on because apparently sitting on the ground to rest isn't something people can do. My character is about to die because of something as simple as not being able to rest. I stood still all night and it did nothing to reduce my exertion. What should I do?

I think they have not yet implemented that the character faints from fatigue, so I think your best bet would be to look carefully where you are and just go to the nearest house, because the only way to rest in the forest is with the tent and if you make a chair or something like that.

"To sleep the survivor needs to find a bed or a sofa or other chair. A player can also sleep in a tent."

"As of the current build, survivors will suffer no consequences for remaining awake while exhausted for an infinite period of time, but passing out due to exhaustion has been planned for future updates."

Firstly I recommend moving over to the IWBUMS build as that allows you to sit on the ground. Second, if you are playing on any build before 41 you should always have a tent kit on you when you go into the wilderness. I know that neither of these really help after the fact, but there it is.

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. Somehow I managed to make it back to my safehouse. It was pretty well barricaded but surrounded by hordes. I climbed up a sheet rope and slept on the second floor. I managed to get fully rested before my barricades were destroyed and a zombie made it upstairs to the bedroom. I had to make my clothes into sheet ropes and climb out the window. I came back after a bit and managed to clear it after the horde had dispersed. Unfortunately, I died shortly after while doing a supply run. I was trying to take out a horde in a field. A single one grabbed me and by the time I stabbed it, the rest were on top of me. Oh well, it was a decent run.

you can bring a tent. you can make it with 4 tent pegs and a tarp. For me, exhausted in the wilderness = death, so I don't run unless it's absolutely needed.
theres a mod that lets you rest on ground

Tent, chair, grab a sofa or chair from a house and drag it into the wilderness (or carry it with you permanently if you have great strength). Don't forget you can pick up furniture.
