1. You did not barricade your base.
2. If you built it, you did not put the corner posts in.
3. If you were gone a while, zombies get 're-spread' over the area, they are not saved as actual individual zombies. If you did not build anything in your 'base' then it is considered 'open to zombie infestation'.
4. Zombies do not 'respawn' in a zone, they 'migrate'. So if you clear an area of zombies, they migrate from more full zones to the empty zones. See #3 above.
5. Zombies respawn is the default game, and they move in from the edges of the map to fill empty zones, based on the settings.
