Cant fish

Im not getting the Fishing interaction when clicking on a river (Riverside map) I have a fishing rod with line, a fishing tackle and some worms. The only interaction that works is with the spear.

On the second problem the fishing trap is inpossible to be placed, wth? I cant find a single point along the riverside river to place that sodding thing.

What am I missing? Its june so winter is not a reason. can the rod only be used after a certain skill, if so why cant I place the trap anywere? Do i neet to build some dock over the water to reach deeper spots?

Edit: its raining at the moment, but that cant be the reason not being able to place the trap or use the rod

The character seem to prioritize fishing with a spear over using a fishing rod. Put your spear in your backpack or drop it and he should use the fishing rod then.

You should be able to just place the net traps anywhere, but I haven't used them in build 41 yet so not sure...

Equip your fishing rod as a primary (not two handed) and have a bait in your main inventory. Once you start fishing, whatever bait you have will automatically be equipped as a secondary.

May sound a bit stupid to ask, but is that fish net undamaged?

finally able to place the fishing net. It just needed to be placed in the main inventory.
As for the fishing rod, since the last update you can choose which to use (spear or fishing rod) - works as well now.

I got the same problem. Thanks for the tips to place it in main inventory. This is kind of stupid.

There are a number of items where their uses are noted but unusable if they are not in your main inventory, yet still within reach. When in doubt, put it in your character's inventory.

Placing them on the ground may also work, particularly if working with heavy items.

Additionally, char needs to be standing quite close to the water edge and player needs to be clicking on nearest water tiles to get for these options to show up - can't place the trap or fish too far away from the coast anymore.
