Personally I have always been fond of Riverside. If you can get to the main shopping district, and navigate it, there is a hardware store which almost always has all the tools you'll need. Not far from there is a pharmacy which will have more first aid than you'll ever need. The zombie population can get decently large pretty quickly, but I always try to hit those two locations as quickly as I can. There is a grocery store there as well, but food is pretty easy to come by in the early game no matter where you play. There is also a school a short trip away, so if you ever get desperate for a backpack, you can likely find one there, but I generally don't like going into the school.

And as I always point out with questions like this: They're spawn points and you can travel to any of the locations at anytime. The whole map is connected.

I personally like Muldraugh as a beginner starting point, because there isn't as many zombies as West Point, but it still has a lot of good loot locations.

I feel like I gimp myself if I start in Rosewood or Muldraugh. Hardware store is just too strong.

Not only for beginners, but march ridge is pretty good, there is the only fire department with best protection clothes and a chance for axe and good bag, if you don't have bag you could loot local school and then drive to Maldraugh

Well sure. My point was only that from a beginners point of view those are probably the best places. As a more experienced player I personally always spawn in WP. Each place has its pros and cons though.

Knox is one big map. You're just choosing a spawn point.

I recommend Riverside myself, because it has a lot of great options, it's easy to navigate around, and West Point is less than a quarter of a gas tank in a decent car away.
