Multiplayer with friend(s)
In the past I have played with a friend in the multiplayer about three years back, but I remember the hardest part was getting it setup to work. I am now wondering if it is at least easer to get it setup, or is it now you can just start a server and play?

It's super easy now. Just go into the game, click Host. There you can change your server settings, which is very similar to creating a solo sandbox game. Click start... and you're done. Create your character, then once you're in the game, you can invite your friend by pressing ESC, Invite Friends, then click the "Deny" next to their name until it says "Allow". They should get the invite, but you can also send them one through the steam overlay.

If you have any issues, make sure your virus protection isn't blocking the connection.

Very cool. Do I still need to open port(s) or is that not something that I need to worry about any more.

I'm not entirely sure... I don't think you do, but I could certainly be wrong.

Alright, no problem. The next chance I give it a try. Want me to let you know what I find in regards to the port(s)?

Yeah sure. That'd help me help someone else in the future.

Well, bead news. I setup a server, and I just had a friend try to joyn it and he got a message saying that the server is not responding. I may have to refigure out the opening of port(s).

I have a ok modem with UPnP on, I havent had to port-forward in years.

you not only need the default 16261 port, but at least the same amount for each player after that. So for 10 players you need to open: 16261 -> 16272

Use this website for guide on your specific modem:

You should not need to port forward. If I'm correct, they disabled functionality of the dedicated server executable that comes with the game. All you do is from the main menu, got to host game, set up your settings, annd it should be good. You also need to give your friend permission to join the server before inviting them.
