How does the loot system/spawn work?

So does loot in the buildings in this game respawn over time? How does it really work? I've looked around online on reddit threads and stuff and everyone's said different things. Someone said not to move anything that you originally found loot in, in the first place because then that deactivates the loot spawner for it(if loot does respawn anyways because I don't even know if he was right).

Can anyone clue me in on how the loot system works? cars, food in houses, weapons, books, etc. etc.?

by default loot doesnt respawn. in the sandbox mode,you can change this option and loot can respawn ( you can choose different timeframe like every 2 week or every month).

Btw Foraging item and fish (not 100%sure about fish) will respawn by default.

Yup "fishing" is like foraging !

Damn, the server with my friends sounds likes its going to get way more challenging now that i know loot doesn't respawn lol

i also like to make it so zombies dont respawn either in sandbox mode, so every zombie i kill has bit of an impact.

If you do a server by hosting you have even more control over loot spawning. On my personal between me and friends it's set at around 8 or 9 months and even then I set loot to extremely rare on all tabs.
