Washing yourself... without soap
All I'm seeing with searches are washing clothes without soap. People asking how. People giving ideas on how. But what about washing yourself without soap. How do you do that? I can't just stick myself inside of a washing machine. Anyone have ideas?

This is actually quite true, why do you even need soap? Clean water or water and sponge, which we have ingame, should be enough to clean yourself.

Characters are so picky they refuse to wash themselves with only water

Nice bathroom, water, zombie apocalypse
Nah man, need that soap...

Indeed. It's perfectly possible to wash oneself with water only, including hair once your body gets used to it.

To get rid of real dirt and blood you will need a lubricant. That lubricant is soap. Cold water isn't going to do much.

You could instead just imagine your character does wash with just water and it just doesn't do the same as soap and water?

Cold water would wash alot really. Not cleanly but i was planting saplings in rainy autumn with fairly sized dog running around trying to hug you and barrel with cold water goes long way. It could just take longer while reducing dirt to half or quarter and wasting more water.

there should be 2 kind of dirtiness. The one water is enough to clean, and the other one you'd need soap.

Would be all well and good if you could expect to find soap in houses more often but it's more
like 1 in 20 houses might have had some means of washing themselves pre outbreak.

While we're talking soap what does washing liquid do? I found some and expected to be
able to use it as soap but don't know if you can.

there is a mod for more soap, pretty sure there will be one for washing liquid use

Ashes you create when cremating stuff (wood or meat) could also be used as washing stuff

Bleach with towel (or dish towel? dont remember exact name) allows clean blood option for blood splatters. If you can catch them. Didnt use it in B41 yet but in B40 splatter on wall could originate from another room or floor.
Neithere did anything harmfull yet so its mainly for cosmetic and rp-ing any way. If actuall impact would be added though i hope there'll be more options to clean up house, cloths and self.

Yep, some lye making could be good. For fertilizing too.

Water will never be as good than water + soap to clean, this is true

Still, water is MUCH better at washing than not washing at all because no soap

Really, i dont think anyone with water access in an apocalypse, no matter which one, would say 'no no no, i wont wash myself if i dont have some soap'*

For balance, you could just make it use lot of water

They should do it the same way it's done in Kingdom Come Deliverance, where you can only get so clean with just water. If you wanna get COMPLETELY clean, you'll need soap.
My point was there is no need for a wash without soap option. The soap mechanic is there because you need to stave off any infections. Cleaning without some form of soap is all fine and dandy but a pointless game mechanic. If implemented it would be additional fluff that doesn't really provide much. I'm sure a mod will be made to cover this niche need to be able to wash without soap for no reason at all.

Should they add a 'take shoes off' option alongside the sleep option? It wouldn't do anything but would be cool to have, no? I mean, you can take your shoes off before bed in real life so why not here?
Arkhiel Oct 25, 2019 @ 4:05pm
Not the same thing. sleeping without shoes wouldn't add anything but being able to clean some stuff without soap, and not being able to with others, would just make you carefull about how you get dirty.
Cleaning stuff without soap would do nothing. The clothes would still visually show as dirty because the dirty clothes is a visual indicator as to their state, dirty. There is no visual state for clean/dirty. How would they convey clean/dirty clothes? They can't, they would have to stay looking dirty because really, that's what they are.

The introduction of a clean without soap option would therefore be moot. All you would see is the progress bar for 2 seconds and that's it, you're clean/dirty but still look dirty. You might as well just imagine that progress bar.
