Connection to host lost error.
Hi guys, recently I managed to set up a server for me and my friend via steam. It allowed me to connect and play the game fine. However, when my friend tried to join it gave them an error after the character creation screen saying that "Connection to host lost." And the only thing they can do is quit the game to desktop. They tried to host the server them selves but the game threw the same error at them. We are trying to run a server with mods, but I don't think that could've been the problem.

They then tried to host a server without any mods and the same error got thrown at them. They tried to reinstall the mods, reinstall the game, rebooted steam, verified the game cache. Tried to boot the game in 64 bit and 32 bit. None of those fixes didn't work and it's a major downer. I'd appecaite any other hints at fixing this problem.

Did you check ports for both persons? How about game versions? Etc etc.... The default list for hosting private servers should be applied here.

You should try running the server without mods and if it works try adding the mods back one by one to see which one is causing it.
Mods can cause issues when hosting, especially now since some mods have lost compatibility.

We haven’t checked the game versions and I’m not sure how ports could effect things if you’re actually just using steam to host the server and not via your own connection but we can look around for that

They tried to host the server them selves without mods but to no avail, I havnt tried to host the server without any mods to see if they can join.

Go to %UserProfile%\Zomboid\saves\multiplayer and find the save for the server (it'll have the IP an dusername in it). Delete it.

Have the server owner do the same thing, in addition to deleting the \servertest\ file.

Most likely it's just due to out of date files messing up the loading sequence for the server.

Alright, I’ll give that a shot cause that does makes sense. I’ll get back to you as soon as I get results from it.
