Project Zomboid

Want to ask if some sort of end-goals will be implemented and a couple other questions
I don't own the game, i only watched some gameplay videos on youtube and i'm intrigued to see what the game will become upon release. I wonder if this game will always be sandbox or some sort of victory goals will be implemented, like, for example, to build a rocket and escape to the moon or smth, survive until all zombies decay, kill every zombie in the town, etc. I see that you're planning to add npc's, will they feature some sort of quests, or will they be just simulating what other players do? Also i see that there are a few different scenarios - the start of the outbreak, 1 year into the outbreak and something. I thought it would be cool if there was something like 5 or 20 years into the outbreak, when the survivors, as it's usually portrayed by post-apocalyptic fiction, develop organised groups with secure bases, and set up the scenario around that, where npc's would give you quests, and the player would be trying to fit in that world of organised survival, with trades and wars with other groups, i know it's not what your game is about currently, but personally i would love to see something like that and hence i ask if that can some day be a reality.

There is only one victory condition, its called to stay alive. Once the NPC`are finally released, this game will become a new type of end game.

Like Gilga said I think with NPCs you will get the kind of post-apocalyptic atmosphere you mention, with conflict between groups and fights for resource. However the endgame is already about building a secure base and I still get a ridiculous amount of enjoyment mid-late game using the buggy Super Survivors mod.

Do not die, thats the only goal.

It says in the intro "this is how you die," it is really about the journey. Personally I love the early game, eventually as time goes on I just get more and more bold until I end up barricaded in a bathroom with no ammo praying for a helicopter haha

well, this is why i asked the question, that means that the game is pure sandbox and the player creates his own fun by choosing his own goals, i asked specifically if a game mod may be implemented to have clear winning conditions, not an imaginary victory but actual victory

Maybe a modder could add some end time goals, but we won`t see them in the vanilla game.

But we will get NPC`s, and they will change the way we play PZ. :TheSmiley:

It is my thought (perhaps that of the devs but don't quote me) but any sort of end condition would take away from the game. There really is no winning in the event of a total world apocalypse, just survival. It would be ridiculous if you were encouraged to build a rocket and go to the moon, but that's just my opinion :) Maybe you should try the game out then make a mod!

As for the npcs, we've been told they are going to 'simulate' a player if they were Role Playing. Adding life to your journey with conflicts and twists like any story in a game.

I think the core game is unlikely to change

NPCs will probably bring more life and challenges, perhaps some quests and some stories, but the whole game will still be about a random person in the middle of a zombie apocalypse

Mostly sandbox type just like now, with some emergent stuff from NPCs interactions

Im sure there will be Sandbox options just like now concerning zombies, NPCs...etc to tailor the game to everyone taste

Anyway, if someone is more interested by NPCs interactions than by zombies, there are much better games than this one

As for endgame goals, mmm, the game is supposed to be at least semi realistic (if we accept zombies...)
So, rocket, Moon and such high fantasy, highly doubt it (mods still can do whatever...)

The endgame is surviving, plus personnal goals...like all sandbox
If someone can survive easily, he can just bump the difficulty up until it isnt as easy and boring
