Does anyone else feel like theres just too many zombies?
I feel like this game is good but theres just way too many zombies. going anywhere new isnt worth the risk at all because of the sheer number of zombies. Especially starting game when all i have is golf clubs. Even on the easiest mode there are like 3-5 zombies on my screen at all times. I would love to play more but atm the risk is just not worth the reward.

Immersion breaker? The entire town's population has become zombies. If you look at the amount of houses, then yeah, the amount of zombies is realistic and there could be more.

That's realism. I like it.

The population does not match the amount of houses in the slightest. The devs themselves said they made population much higher than it would be to keep the challenge.

This isn't even accounting respawns and zombie hordes in the middle of rural areas.

Man when i first started playing i was the same way. Too many zeds every where. But if you take your time and slowly explore you will see how easy it is to get past them. I began with 41 to just go out from spawn house and clear a little each direction and return. after i had cleared enough i moved to another house. repeat. Now i know most towns and where i want to go to. if you dont stand up and walk or run around, you wont draw a herd to follow you. some people never learn this valuable lesson. With the new sneak, you can go between herds of 20, with about 10 steps between herds and not get spotted. but we are talking walking and sneaking, not holding the right mouse button. which is for fighting not sneaking.
So if you just cant get past how many zeds are there maybe you need to test a different town to spawn in. otherwise this isnt the game for you. got almost 1250 hours in this now and am so glad i dint dump it. you can have so much fun after you learn what to do. Sandbox lets you set things that make it better long term. I always turn off respawn. i dont want to kill a towns worth every few days. My goal is to kill em all in my world. 1 town at a time.
I am engineer so i make a bunch of pipe bombs and fire traps and get in my cop car with a fresh battery in the trunk. Pull into edge of town, turn on siren and go lurk for a couple hours of game time. then i hit em with the bombs and turn off the siren. go further and repeat. doesnt take me long to clear out a lot of room to loot.

So what i am saying is, this isnt the game to go around shooting them or expecting it to be easy, this is a fabulous survival game where you have to be CONSTANTLY on your toes or you die.

There are definitely more zombies than there are beds in any given area or town. It looks even weirder in the country. But I get it, for the challenge.

Just cleared the shopping mall on day 2. Spawn in Westpoint, get car with siren, grab shotgun and ammo from police station, go to twiggy's for whiskey, grab some general supplies and drive to the mall. Slept in the car coz it took a while to get everything ready and didn't want "Drowsy" to pop-up in combat.
Siren on at front of mall, molotov the Z's, ran around the back and blasted all the ones that got stuck in corners etc with the shotgun. Probably only killed around 100 or so with the shotgun, the molotov killed several hundred from the mall and parking lot.

I remember when I first started, and couldn't survive a week on my best play-throughs. Now I clear the mall on day 2 and basically have everything I can ever want. Takes time, practice, skill, patience, learning where to find gear etc... But then the game is fairly easy
(Keep in mind it did take me like 3 or 4 tries to succeed without dying or burning the whole mall down)

zombie count and/or respawn maybe ramped up on recent patch. I need to kill way more zombies than before to clear West Point shopping district (i.e. to reduce the number of them enough to make scavenging possible).

You dont have to kill each and every zombie on screen
It is pointless
You just kill the zombies you need to kill
You lure away or sneak past the others

2 places with 3-5 zombies and poor weapon
Make it the place you dont care 6-10 zombies and the place you want to go 0 zombie

Not enough? Seriously? The ridiculous amount of zombies has always been a huge immersion breaker for me.

It is now for me because I need to kill around 1400 zombies just to clear shopping district while the population Westpoint is around a thousand. In my current playthrough I killed 2500 just for downtown and general vicinity which is actually kinda too many for the size of the town.

In my opinion, there is indead too much zombies in apocaypse mode. I say it again on this thread but I've already killed 10 000 zombies in 8 month just in Muldraugh and they keep spawning.
I'm not be able to clean a place even for a few days.

Seen a few you tube guys play with respawn off, not sure that means eventually you can kill every zed on the map, and then I guess that counts as you won? Or with the population multiplier, thing there are always zeds in spots you have never been, but when you clear an area they are gone.

Some can wander, of course, but always wondered if that means you can actually kill every zed in the game if they can not respawn.

Or the multiplier means you will still never run out of zeds.

But in the end just use custom to play the game the way you like and feels real to you, yeah I agree with you sometimes, way to many zeds in middle of nowhere, and well the helicopter event seems unreal to me to , it is what it is but you think a guy flying around in helicopter would be doing his best to save other people, not ha look at me I am doctor evil, going to get you killed. All he needs now is zeds with lasers on their heads, but hey I could be wrong. Maybe it is him up there.

I dont use sirens/molotovs. Too cheesy for me.

I'm not saying that the game is too hard because of the number of zombies, after nearly 800hours I have no trouble surviving whatsoever.

I'm just saying for a game that aims at being as realistic as possible, the zombie population is way too much.

I think I heard somewhere, that the population of zeds for the town, really exceeds the number of people that would actually live in that town, but the devs did that to make the game hard, could be wrong, but i am 90% sure I heard that somewhere, again there is custom mode, to make it feel what you would feel what would be real, to be fair respawning is a feature in a game, no zed is just going to suddenly appear out of thin air, a person would have to get bite become a zed and wander to your base, not just appear there out of thin air. So the one thing the devs did is really give the option, of making it play the way you would see it, not just a way to make game hard.

Well, the entire world in the game is getting infected, and we're close to Louisville, so it wouldn't surprise me if the reason there's a lot of them is because they're coming from other places. Don't the walls get breached too?

Too many for that size town? There are small towns all over the country with fairly dense populations. Just a quick Google will show you that. Plus you have to consider that many zombies will have traveled from other towns surrounding that area.

This thread shows the beauty of this game. You can tweak the sandbox options to make it as easy/hard as you want. For a new player I'd suggest going with a low zombie count for a play or two so you get the hang of the gameplay, then you ramp things up to make things interesting.

I know this is an old thread but for a new player it definitely feels at the start that there are loads outside my spawn house area like the next door neighbors were all have big parties when they were zombified lol I even went in and turned off respawn completely and for the initial spawn amount I put "0.5" and it still feels like I can't even open the door without multiple groups coming at me.. and it's not a group of 3 or 4 it's like 4 groups of 4 or 5 each all coming after me, I've gotten fighting down a fair bit but it's just so many at once and everytime I've tried to lose them there are three or so more groups just down the road or in the next yards so I lose one chunk and gain another so I can't breathe haha but im slowly getting it haha I started two separate sandbox games with the exact same settings and the first one I spawned in and it was perfect just a few zombies outside so I could atleast get into close houses and loot a bit but then the second game with same settings it was as I described above lol... weird.. and the next three separate games after that were the same as above just to many haha wish me luck 😅 I need it lol
