Or is it being worked on by modders?
As far as I remember, the original developer did cease working on it. But now modders are updating it nearly ever day. Everytime I use the launcher, it has an update. If you are not using the experimental build, you're missing out.
That's a shame.
Development on Cataclysm did cease but the thread is about CDDA and you mentioned CDDA having ceased development which is where the confusion arose. They are essentially two different games at this point. CDDA has been in active development since its release in 2013.
CDDA even had a small kickstarter a few years ago to pay for a fulltime dev for a short time.
Pretty sure your field of view and everything can be edited via the options and you can zoom out for a larger view.
Well almost everything, obviously there's no multiplayer component. That's where PZ will come along and trump this game. There's more potential for PZ, but it has a long ways to go to catch up with C:DDA.
If you want something that doesn't leave you quite so OP after, the Really Bad Day one is pretty good too.
Quickly discovered the hard way that zombies will get back up and regroup after awhile. I never bothered constructing a cutting weapon to butcher them with and was soon surrounded in the small area I prepared for myself.
A good substitute for butchering zombies is to just smash their corpses. You can do that with whatever you have on hand, but it doesn't train your survival skill.
