Project Zomboid

Honestly, it's a good game....I still prefer cataclysm DDA tho.
Its just more enjoyable playing a highly detailed zombie game rather than a game with small empty maps in 3D.

I don't know how in the hell people play those hideous ASCII games. Gives me a headache even just looking at a screenshot.

Tilesets bro

It goes WAAAY beyond tilesets bro. It's trying to remember the 1000 key commands that completely ruin those games for me.

It's rather easy once you got movement down, the numpad covers all directions.

C:DDA is an awesome game, definitely. I've clocked I don't know how many hours into it.

If you're looking to check out some other games along the lines of C:DDA, might I suggest Unreal World, Dwarf Fortress and Aurora? They're all free and they're all awesome.

I've played Dwarf fortress, mainly the masterwork mod and I tried Unrealworld, however it wasn't really something I liked. Never heard of Aurora.

Aurora is DF in space. Not quite, but it's similar enough. Ultra complicated simulation of a space traveling empire with minimalistic graphics. Start on home planet, colonize others and expand outward. Setup infrastructure on worlds that are inhospitable to life until you can terraform them. Custom build your own ships to perform every function you could possibly need.

It's quite fun.

Does it have a launcher type mod with tilesets etc? I use the CDDA launcher.

I like it when things are more streamlined in terms of getting everything setup. The game itself can be complicated, just the process of getting it started like tilesets, mods, and launching it, I prefer these things to be easier.

Dunno. I don't use mods much, myself, and I'm one of those masochists that prefers vanilla DF to any tileset or UI improvement.

Elona+ is a fantastic game as well, and is open-world with a story, but handled in the same way Skyrim does--it's definitely not required to enjoy the game.

It also has its own tileset it uses.
The only main issue is that it's originally in Japanese, so you'll need a mod called 'Elona+ Custom' for the version you want to play.

I used to have no problems playing the ASCII games. However after not playing them for a long period of time I can not go back T_T. I need tilesets as I hate looking for characters that might be monsters or items or enemies haha.

Cataclysm DDA has some nice tilesets and is a fun game. If something is not included in a tileset you get stuck with an seeing ascii character sometimes unless they changed some things recently.
