Which good and bad traits are your "Must have"?
As the title says, Im curious to see what 1 good trait and 1 bad trait other players tend to pick.

For me it is:

Good trait: Thick skinned. Minimizes the chance of a zombie break my skin and infecting me if/when I do a stupid misstake and a zombie manage to get a chance to nom on me! XD

Bad Trait: High thirst. Thirst is no problem at all in this game and it does give plenty of juicy points! :D

Strong is a must have for me because you can hold more items

Strong also has a better chance of knocking zombies backwards, or down, with one swing of the axe.

Outdoorsman - Never worry about the rain again.
Lucky - Never ending supply of axes.
Athletic - Run fast and never stop!
Dextrous - Grab and run!
Brave - No fear!

Slow Healer - Just avoid getting hurt, its not so hard to do.
Hearty appetite - The well fed bonus goes away 1 second sooner. Big whoop!
Hemophobic - Yeah, don't get hurt.
Weak stomach - Just watch what you eat.
Slow reader - Fast forward time.
Clumsy/conspicuous - Just run for it, thats why you get the athletic trait.

I personally prefer to stock up on all the traits that give you permanent additions you cannot ever learn from a book or grinding. You can start with a boost to skills like say cooking which will not only give you a head start on maxing it but also gives an additional xp boost but you can without doing so max every category in time anyways.
Traits like cat's eyes, brave, lucky, builder, fast learner, organized, nutritionist, dextrous etc add actual changes to your character you either have to start or you never will. As for negative traits under/overweight give a fair amount of extra creation points and aren't to hard to lose by adjusting your eating. (nutrition must be enabled)
If i choose traits like this and you take things like strong and athletic etc you might reach max level faster than I will in these categories but I will reach max level eventually and when I do my character will have a bunch of extra capability that you would never attain.
If you would like to see all the traits and a more in depth overview of what they actually do

I also tend to prefer getting a boost to physical since there are no books to help me with that.

Carpentry, cooking metal working, all of those are easy to learn with books even without any knowledge about them when you start a new game.

Sprinting, Lightfooted, Nimble and sneaking.
No way to boost those later on. Which is why I often start as a burgular with the proper traits to help me level up those skills more easily.

Exactly, athletic and strong are near impossible to get by 'just playing the game'. Those traits level up so incredibly slow, I doubt they are even atainable in the lifetime of a play through.

In my current single player game survival mode I have currently survived for 2 months, 14 days and 7 hours.

Just made it halfway to level 6 in Strenght! 15000 out of 30000! XD

And it gets harder and harder to level it up, at the expense of doing anything else. Strong starts me at 9 strength. And athletics starts me at 9 fitness. Not someting your likely to ever get to in the game any time soon.

Really good points. :)
Gonna use those two perks if/when this character die! XD

How I get the traits I want.

Unemployed.

Bad:
High thirst, slow healer, conspicuous, hearty appetite, hemophobic, weak stomach, clumsy, slow reader.

Good:
Dextrous, outdoorsman, brave, lucky, thick skinned, athletic, strong.

I feel like Hemophobic is such a must-have in single player, at least. Three points for panicking for a short period if you have to heal yourself. Unless you are using a lot of guns and somehow also getting hurt and also surviving your wounds long enough to heal I don't see enough of a downside to ever pass on this in single player.

As others have said, things that you cannot ever get from play (Cat's Eyes is a fave of mine) or traits that boost Physical stats, especially Fitness as it is incredibly slow and tedious to try to raise it. Strength can be raised, if slowly, just from killing zombies, chopping trees and many other common tasks you're going to be doing anyway.

Overweight and Obese are also quite good if you're trying for a long term character. Early game is harder but those are traits which you can eventually work off.

I've been coming around to Slow Reader as well since the extra time seems rather minor and I really only use most books in downtime and when safe anyway.

Haha I use underweight instead since the power will cut out and I can just pig out and eat as much as possible before it spoils to gain weight!
Easier to gain weight than lose it, just like RL! XD

The way I play Cat's Eyes would be useless since darkness never bothers me. (I tend to sleep from 00:00 to 08:00, set my wrist watch to that cycle) XD

For me Inconspicious is a must have! I prefer avoiding zombies! The less they see me the better my chances are of surviving. Other than that we seem to play roughly the same! :D
WillieSea Dec 16, 2017 @ 11:40am
If you sneak by zombies a lot, you increase your sneak skill. the higher your sneak skill, the less likely zombies will see you. Which is like gaining the inconspicuous trait. That is why I go with conspicuous and clumsy, it's free points since sneak skill will counter act the traits.

Im pretty sure conspicious and inconspicious act as a penalty/bonus, doesnt matter what skill lever you are.

You will always be harder to spot with inconspicious. I lost count of the amount of times I walked past a horde or 2 and looted a high value building with only 1 or no points at all in sneaking.

That is just not possible for me. No matter how many points I spent on stealth and how quiet I play, I always end up having the whole neighborhood after my butt.
