Guns do have their place in the game, though. In PvP and eventually when hostile NPCs are added, you will have no choice but to bring a gun to a gunfight.
Also, when there's a horde between you and something you need, sometimes the only option is to pull out a shotgun and your ammo stockpile and mow through.
People have this weird attachment to the idea that guns should be the "ultimate" weapon, an attachment that I think comes from playing other games. Which sure is true if you're fighting other living people that also have guns, but against zombies it's a terrible weapon. Limited ammunition, loud noise... inconspicuousness reigns supreme because zombies are only a threat if they notice you.
There is a mod for chainsaws.
They don't have any positives, except for shotgun which thanks to hail of pellets has improved accuracy but that's about it.
And no, they are not great noisemakers for moving zambambos around, they are troublemakers. Better is to use sound-decoy devices like that one that can be crafted with electrician skill (easier to level then accuracy...) or simply alarm clocks which give you some time before starting to emit sound or hell, even yelling is safer...
