Scratch of Death
I'd be happy, if a Dev could answer on this. The last few days, i played, i got a single scratch, which killed me nearly instantly. Even eating doesn't save my life. Should this really happen, to allready die on a scratch on your hand? I mean, i desinfected the wound and even the bandage, kept me well fed, but i kept loosing my hp and died after 2-3 minutes. Even our doctor checked the wound, was just a scratch, no deep wound, nor infected. Just a scratch that is hitting like a Truck.

There's a 25% chance the scratch will zombify you (if the scratch is a opened, bleeding wound).

So basically you have to depend on luck, or just don't get attacked by a zombie in the first place.

Then fast healer, thick skin and lucky are super useless. I've played 3 days in a row and EVERY time the very same. Whyever all say 25% chance, when in real it is 0% chance to survive a scratch. Also, i wasn't zombified, i only got that scratch over and over and died away withhin minutes, whilst wasting all our food several times. I don't need zombies to die on a scratch. So Dev's can remove them, as a scratch is allready more dangerous then a horde rampaging your home.

Also, those scratches weren't bleeding. There just stood scratched.

Whether the scratch is bleeding or not, there's still a 25% chance of getting infected. It's definitely less likely if it's not bleeding, but after nearly 3000 hours of playiing, I've learend there's no getting around that. But you can definitely survive a scratch, just like there's a ~3% chance of surviving a bite. I've done it and I've seen others do it. It really is all up to luck. Thick skinned leaves you with less of a chance of a zombie breaking your skin and scratching you; Lucky lowers the chance that you will be infected in the first place; and Fast Healer just speeds up your healing process with all wounds. Once you're queasy with any wound inflicted by a zombie, it's all over. You just probably have bad luck even with the lucky trait, cause some scratches are definitely worse than others.

I could not. I ate our whole supplies, was well fed, but still this bandaged scratch drained my hp and 2-3minutes later i was dead. So either is it a bug now, or not. Because if this is intended to kill you, whilst you did everything possible and in a felt million guides described, then i want to refund that game and want my money back.

Like I said, scratches have different severities. You can only see the severity with a high medical skill. You're just getting unlucky with very severe scratches, but... It really shouldn't kill you so quickly. If your time is set to go fast then that'd make more sense, but each time I've played it'd take 10 minutes at least to get the queasy moodlet... (That is, with a five hour day cycle)
Icecold Heart Jul 28, 2017 @ 8:01am
Nope, ingame not even 30 minutes pass. As said, i am talking of 2-3 minutes to die out, even when well fed. And server settings are standart, not anything set for hardcore.

And dieing 3 real life days in a row this way doesn't sound like unluck anymore to me.
Durendal Jul 28, 2017 @ 8:08am
This sounds like a glitch. If you are bandaged and not bleeding that should have stopped your HP drain (you don't lose HP if bandaged unless the wound is severe and something is broken). If you were well fed and bandaged that should have stopped the blood loss and slowly regained your life. Dying in 3 mins from a scratch really isn't normal.

Turning into a zombie/getting infected is one thing, dying from a scratch in 3 mins while bandaged and well fed is just screwed up.

If a scratch is bleeding, you have to sew it up or you will die.
Are you on the testing branch?

In real life before the invention of handwashes and stuff people used to die all the time from infected wounds, even small ones can go septic. Due to the amount of dead flesh youre dealing with its understandable that youd need to heavy disinfect the area if it came into contact with anything like that. Modern Medicine really saved a lot of asses haha

It is an actual glitch I have come across as my brother found himself insanely irritated as he would be doing something and maybe take a scratch himself and he dies in 2-3 minutes as stated above. It responds as though there was no administered bandage and eventually he dies. After observing the body, he did not reanimate indicating no zombification thus solidying the presumption of the glitch's existance. Game has been acting wonky recently as I noticed I cannot fill bottles with water making life a little rough. Conclusion... the glitches be real yo.

No thin skin, also no hypochondria, or medical mods. But after a clean reinstallation it fixed itself. Now i don't die immediatly anymore, once i get a scratch. Eventually a file got corrupted?

Or your initial installation wasn't completely clean, which can absolutely happen with antivirus programs and Steam, which is why you should just ALWAYS turn off your AV when you install games.

I have had the same problem 3 times now. In my last game i survived almost two months and just one scratch did me in.

I got scratched by a zombie because the controls get me sometimes. I always want to walk from the perspective of my chracter, so forward in my head is the way my character is facing, left is the left sid of my character, and so on. This leads to me walking straight into zombies sometimes when they are below me on screen. I pusk backwards to walk back, but my character walks forward (down on screen) straight into a zombie. Annoying, but that's my silly problem...

But anyway. Got scratched. Just bleeding, no infection showing. Disinfect anyway and bandage. Removed the dirty bandages after a while, disinfect again and bandage again. Wound stopped bleeding, still no infection showing in the health menu. Went to sleep and was dead before i woke up. HP just kept dropping and went to zero in about 3 hours, nothing i could do.

Why does this happen? Does the health menu not show you when a wound is infected with the zombie virus?

I totally get it that one scratch or bite can kill you. It is the zombie apocalypse after all. But if a wound is not showing as infected, and it is no longer bleeding, why does it kill me anyway? In that case i have to agree the first aid system is kind of redundant... In one of my first games i had the same problem with a scratch by a window. Scratch was disinfected and bandaged, but killed me anyway. You should be able to patch up scratches and cuts that aren't infected easily, no? Or as i asked, does an infection with the zombie virus not show in the health menu?
