You sure can you little shrimp boat. Start by getting a mug and filling it with water, put it in your inventory along with coffee/tea and a full container of sugar. You need not heat it up.

**As of version 36.4**

Utensil/Ingredient:
-Kettle
-Mug
-Water
-Heat Source

1.Fill Kettle with Water (Kettle -> Kettle with Water)
2.Having Kettle with Water and Empty Mug and Coffee/Tea Bag in your main inventory, right click on Kettle with Water and Pour Into Empty Mug (EMpty Mug->Mug with Water)
3.Open your Crafting Panel, navigate to Cooking and select Prepare Beverage
4.Add Coffee into Mug with Water [Mug with Water -> Beverage (Uncooked)]
5.Place Beverage (Uncooked) in Heat Source and cook it
6.Enjoy Beverage (Cooked) while hot!

I just managed to google this up and would like to correct the other posters.

They're simply telling you how to make tea or coffee. A Hot Cuppa is a separate item with separate properties.

You need these in your inventory:

- Tea Bag or Coffee
- Kettle with Water
- Empty Mug
- Sugar

The mug must be empty and the kettle must be full. Right clicking the mug should give you the option to make the Hot Cuppa. The water needn't be hot.
