Lag in private server, please help us
hi
i tried to host a server and played with friends in my house
the game sometimes lag so bad that even other player's character move differently from what's on their screen (as we are playing next to each other, we can actually see what's on others' screen), suddenly get bitten even when the nearest zombies are about 10m away, even sometimes the map is black as if it is still loading.
the zombies are NOT "blinking in and out of existence" as often described in the forums, it's more like the zombies are "lagged".
i tried playing as admin (invisble to zeds), and shout (using the Q button) or fire a firearm. it took full 2 secs for the zombies to actually turn around to my direction. as if the "sound" happened 2 secs after i actually pressed the button/trigger

i have 8gb of RAM, intel i5, nvidia geforce gt635m.
i played the single player and local split screen without any of these issue

how can we possibly fix this?
is this because i have a slow internet connection?
if so, is it possible to set up the game to play locally without any internet connection at all?

I am sorry if my english confuse you, english is not my mother tounge. just ask if you don't understand what i meant and i will try my best to describe it
my apoligies if i post this in the wrong section. as i really don't know wether i should put this in "multiplayer" or "server" section, i'll just put it in general discussion

thank you in advance

We have the exact same problem, and I have a 100 mb connection, so does my friends, so it's not your slow connection that's the culprint.

Also, game was working fine for us untill yesterday

@iBaked: thank you for the info, sir

update:
there's a discussion about lag before this and someone said that starting the game in 32 bit version will improve the symptoms. i tried to start the game in both 32 and 64 version, both didn't work (the zombies still lag).
man, even if i were to spawn items with console command as admin, it sometimes also have delay. took another second for it to spawn in admin char inventory (a second is actually a long time, for a game delay)

the problem is clear: lag, plain and simple.
it's as if i don't meet the system requirements, either hardware or network connection. yet, i can even run skyrim with lots of mods on high (not ultra though, it will start to lag) without any of these lag, so I'm pretty sure my setup is up to the task
as for network speed, i must admit that i don't have decent internet speed. i humbly admit that I can't even play dota with ping less than 300 (usually around 350), but I am playing LOCALly with my friends next to me (not over hamachi, tunngle, or any other vpn).

TL;DR
is it probably because the game is not configured to play local only?
is it because i didn't allocate enough RAM for the server? in the drop down menu there's only up to 1.25 gb of RAM. how can i allocate more RAM?

any help/insight/information is greatly appreciated

To clarify: me and a couple of friends have played without issues, up untill yesterday. All of us have mid-high end specs and fast internet connections, and again had no problems for weeks up untill yesterday. We played on the same server for all this time (one I hosted, which required invitation to join), and had literally zero issues.

The problems we are experiencing are exactly as you described them, zombies seems as if they lag, and sometimes bite people from half a screen away. Most of the time though, people will now lose connection to the server, or the map won't load some places, replacing terrain/buildings with just black squares.

We have all tried to completely delete and reinstall the game, verify files on steam, change the allocated RAM memory, and nothing works.

So I don't think it has anything to do with your specs or internet connection.

Edit: Also, tried joining other online servers; some work just fine, as our game used to, and others have the same issues as ours.

@ibaked
thank you for the clarification
it seems that the problem is not on our end (users)
let us hope that the dev address this issue quickly and fix it so we costumers able to play without this issue

Can't speak for OP, but personally; no, we only played vanilla on our server so far.

But I think some of the online servers we joined (after ours stopped working) had mods. Not sure if those were the ones that worked or not.

@butterbotpz
i have ORGM gun mod and hydrocraft
tried playing in solo with it: nothing went wrong, no lag
tried playing MP without it: still lag

i am no tech wizard but from this simple experiment i think it is safe to conclude that the mod has nothing to do with the lag

please tell me what i should do to stop the lag in multiplayer
thank you

gt635m? Anything with an M is usually terrible.

Even the host can see the lag, this must be how the servers are configurated, the server can't handle to syncronize many zombies for all the players in the match, when we are away from zombies or a few, the lag dissappears.

This is another problem of not using dedicated servers, come on devs, are you THAT scared of piracy? you should release a dedicated server.

Another easy way to fix this would be adding an option for "client side syncronization"

I bought this game today and tried to play it with a friend on a private server. First, he hosted the game and then I hosted the game, but on both occasions, the player joining the other person's sever experienced extremely severe lag issues. That is, zombies and the other player basically teleported around, being able to inflict damage before they even appeared. In conclusion, the game was totally unplayable.

Out of curiosity, I joined a public server as well, and this resulted in zero lag issues.
