shotgun usage
would you say the shotgun is only for a last resort only? i feel it's counter-productive any other time because it just draws more zeds to you

I think maybe this should be looked at for some kind of change. Not drastically, but they shouldn't be a "last resort" type of weapon. I'm not saying they need to be the go to weapon for every scenario. But being able to use one, (PRACTICALLY I want to emphasise), when you're far enough away from you're base and you just need to pop a few rounds off and get in and out of a place I think should be more of an easier accessed "luxury" I guess you could call it....

Again I want to stress I don't want them to the go to weapon for every occasion, but currently they're too impractical to use. They aren't even really a "last resort" weapon anyway. Like Gilga mentioned(and practically anyone who knows enough about the guns in the game will say) they only use them when they're "bored" and want to spice things up with a death-wish-killing-spree.

In order to make the guns even close to "functional" you need at least a 2 in aiming. Using the shotgun is best for achieving that because it's innate accuracy is decent enough for a 0 Aiming skill person to use. But in order to get it up there you aren't going to be using it as a "last resort".

I know it's a stereotype, but it's the American South. Guns are not only common, they're used OFTEN.

I'm not saying our characters should be Rambo. And firing them should definitely still attract a ton of zombies. But it feels like you don't actually WANT us to use guns.

I think the usage of them should be a little more commonplace. I don't know if the developers watch The Walking Dead, but I've seen it mentioned here a couple times, so maybe other people will understand what I mean... On that show they almost primarily will use melee weapons to take down a zombie. A gun isn't ever their first choice. HOWEVER, they do know how to use them(even in the beginning when they were apocalypse-noobs) they were still a practical object. Yes they alerted the entire area of zombies to the humans location, but they still were able to make a practical use out of having a firearm.

Maybe it's just a question of making ammunition a little more common. Not insanely common but enough so that you can get some practice in and maybe use a gun for more than just Blaze-of-Glory Rampages.

Even with the silencer mods, I've used guns in my singleplayer playthroughs very rarely. And even then, I missed like 80% of my bullets. As it was said by Deputy, it really isn't worth it in most instances to use vanilla guns unless you're ready to go out. Mod-introduced weapons are barely better at all.

And without a silencer, using a shotgun means you're either getting ready to die or you need to blow that hole through to your escape rope.

So yeah, I use shotguns when those zeds decide they're ready to storm the fort. I'll live another day and butterknife the entire horde when I return, but if it gets me through then it served its purpose.

Only problem that i have with guns is how inaccurate they are and XP you get from using them.

Till level 4 you have to use shotgun because pistol requires training similar to artillery school and rifle requires basically something like astronuts ge through to be able to pilot a space shuttle...

I can understand that rifle needs more training in order to be able to hit something on long distances, but pistols as a short range weapons are one of most easy to use firearms created by human.

I think that pistols should be on par with shotguns and learning process of "aiming skill" should be a lot faster, because you dont need to shoot 5 thousands bullets to hit mark from distance of 30-50m with a pistol, shotgun or even a rifle at this distance.

Guns having scarce ammo and loud noise are already hard enough to use even without having artificially insane learing time in order to even use them somewhat decently... But with this insanity of "3 trucks of ammo per 1 level of skill" they are useless.

At this point they have absolutely no pros whatsoever. None. Without high level of skill they are inaccurate, they dont have suppressors so they attract everything in the area to your position, and ammo is rare so every shot counts. Add to that the need of thousands of bullets required to level skills and you have a perfect useless weapon.

Ammo "used to be" more plentiful. But more content gets added, it pushes the ammo off the spawn list, since more stuff is not possible in containers. The same "number" of items is spawned so you hardly see ammo anymore with all the new content spawning instead. I used to get a lot of pistol ammo off zed corpses, but not so much anymore.

Also used to be that shells came in bundles of 12, now i find only 6 of them so they were cut in half. Same goes for pistol instead of 10 I get 5.

Still i think that it was and is way too ridiculous with the whole learning the skill when it comes to firearms and their accuracy.

I've always used shotguns to lure hordes. They're the easiest and most efficient ways to kill zombies. Beyond that, they're fun to clear out areas, assuming you don't mind the buildings around the area getting destroyed (the mall and downtown West Point would be good places to use them).

Guns just need the sound range reduced so we can actually use them. Its crazy.

It really isn't that hard to use guns, if you know how to use them. They have a purpose, but that purpose isn't killing a small group of zombies. You use them to clear areas either by luring zeds or bottlenecking and killing them.

I think it's for killing the zombies faster. If you kill them all you win the game!

If only burning actually worked in any semblence of a timely manner.
They have 5 minutes to set everything within miles on fire.

That's why you lure them ti the open area
