Yup, as has been mentioned here there were quite a few reasons why we picked Kentucky and (even more specifically) Muldraugh.

Firstly the size - Muldraugh was about the right sized town for our initial map. Something we could do reeeeeeasonably close to 1:1 scale.

Secondly, Muldraugh is entirely bordered on one side by the highway which makes it unique amongst towns in the US and is, therefore, interesting (to us, at least).

Thirdly, Return of the Living Dead was set in Louisville, Kentucky so there's the reference angle too.

Forthly, Muldraugh is surrounded entirely by military-owned land which makes a principle of establishing a quarantine around the town quickly plausible.

Fifthly, the average income of families in that general area appealed to us given the "average joe" theme of the game.

Sixthly, etc etc ;)

I think it was due to common americana style zombie film settings appearing in similar locations, seem to remember reading something vaguely along those lines.

I guess that makes sense 90% of all zombie movies / series are based in america

Indeed, certainly most of the very famous ones I can recall.

It would've been an interesting take.

I'd love to see them do an addon/dlc/sequel set in the UK where they're based, though I'm biased.

Killing Floor 2's story is based there. If they did a sequel, it may take place in Manchester.

I absolutely love Killing Floor, though in my opinion it's Britishness was bit like a gift shop in London (no dis to the Harry Potter shop in the train station obviously). Though it seemed they were going for a jokey take on it, slightly Guy Ritchie themed.

A similar setting in Zombi on Wii U was a pretty tacky take on London and didn't seem too well researched, I remember the super market level had American named goods for sale (beets etc).

I'm a fan of bleak British films, give me overcast weather, large stone countryside walls and sporadically placed cottages and I'll be immensely happy. Basically the set of Dead Man's Shoes.

call me crazy... but I feel like the devs should be handy enough with the map editor to pump out dozens of knox sized maps to represent all kinds of earthly locations just with the assets already made.

I think the reason they went with this area specifically was because of the presence of Louisville and the nearby Fort Knox military base.

Fall River, MA would make a really good setting for PZ. Half the city already looks like it's been through an apocalypse or two.

Would have been a really nice DLC location for Fallout 4, especially considering it's only 50 miles south of Boston.
