Frame rate drops to 30 FPS and below
Hello,

Two days ago, I was able to run this game at the high preset with a consistent 60 fps and above. However, yesterday when I launched the game to play Iron Banner with friends, the frames dropped to 30fps and low. I did not change any settings prior to that event.

I have tinkered with just about every setting in game, swapped framecap on and off, switched v-sync on and off, turned everything from minimum to max. I even swapped between different resolutions.

I went into task manager and gave D2 highest priority, tinkered with settings in my nvidia graphics card control panel. My GPU voltage of course saw higher usage after giving it max power, but it didn't seem to do anything in terms of affecting frames. Refreshing the settings afterwards back to default of course, didn't do anything. Of course, I did the inverse and lowered the power usage, and there wasn't much change either.

I have reinstalled the game, and have verified game files via steam. I went into local, deleted everything exception of packages, and then verified the game files again as suggested in another thread. Nothing.

Yes, I've restarted my computer, I've physically cleaned it, ran Ccleaner, and malwarebytes. I disabled malewarebytes and all background programs. I've updated drivers, my OS (windows), and Steam. It is most likely not a hardware issue, I don't have a super computer but I don't have a potato either.

I don't run it with overclock. I ran it with overclock to see if it did anything. It did nothing, however, with one exception you will see below.

In settings, map, and other menus, I get a consistent 60 fps. In Orbit, character selection and menu, I get a max of 45 fps. In tower, I get a max of 40 fps. Loading into a planet, strike, or crucible match I only get a max of 30 fps and average of 25 fps. Weirdly enough, with overclock, I get 90 fps in menus, 50 in orbit, but see no change in tower or gameplay. Of course, I tested this with all presets, frame cap, and vsync as well.

I doubt it's a hardware issue, since I'm not seeing performance issues in other games.

Here are my specs, again, not a super computer but decent enough to run the game fairly comfortably at higher settings:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
16 GB ram
OS: Windows 10

I seemed to have tried everything, exception of a hard reset or drive wipe, and I don't think it would be reasonable to do so in order to play a video game with friends.

If anyone has had an issue similar to this, I would appreciate any suggestion short of setting my computer on fire and building another one. Apparently, I've read other threads saying that those with this issue have been able to fix this by verifying game files via steam, swapping frame cap on and off, and swapping resolutions. All of these haven't worked. According to Bungie's website under "Top Issues Being Investigated", there's one listed as: "Players' FPS may reset and lock at 30 FPS when relaunching the game on Steam." I'm going to submit a support ticket to Bungie, though I doubt it will get anywhere.

Thanks for taking the time to at least read this,

A hopeless bozo

UPDATE: Turning my rendering resolution all the way down to 50 percent makes it 60fps, regardless of what settings I have. My game looks like a Playstation Vita game when I do this, so this isn't really an efficient fix, just a quick one. Though it might be a clue to this Scooby Doo Mystery.

(PROBLEM SOLVED)
How? Bungie updated their f***ing game and everything worked again. It wasn't a driver problem, it wasn't a stupid performance setting, it had nothing to do with my system. So if you somehow still have this problem, play a better game or something.

Thanks, but I already read that exact thread yesterday and tried it. Didn’t even fix it temporarily.

damn. I just hope Bungie help you out. I wonder if you need to contact Nvidia to see if could be their driver software.
I just saw this today.

Just came to me. Have you check your monitor setting? have the latest driver for it?

I'm having the same problem when I'm loading some map while in another window (browser, por example). When I come back to Destiny 2, it's at 30FPS.
