Elie series users also often complain on stick drift after a yer or even less of using it. Thou on elite its easier to fix that. As for dead zones you can use big picture mode in steam. Turn it on in steam and there is a settings for controler where you can configure deadzones. Only drawback is that you need to have big picture mode on for the configuration to work. If you start a game in normal mode than it dosent work but when you start a game with big picture mode than the configuration will load to destiny 2.
I have a lot of experience opening up controllers and modifying/repairing them so I wouldn't worry about having issues with my controller. I only have 1 PS4 controller right now though and I don't want to risk damaging the sensor on the left stick by trying to fix it and breaking my only controller. I've fixed my PS4 controller at least 3 times since I originally got it with my PS4 and it still works fine (minus the stick drift it has now). It's really easy to fix it but my problem right now is trying to get parts to fix it.
