[Bug] Audio - Destiny overrides audio system settings
Destiny 2 is the only game that screws my Sennheiser 4.5HD headset. It appears that the bluetooth headphones have in fact two devices in it - one, hi-fi headphones, second - low fi headset that can both play audio and record via mic.

Whatever I do in Windows 10 settings, both via Control Panel or this new funny looking settings, the game just override that and plays all the sound via low fi headset and enables mic. Even if I totally disable the low-fi headset device in device manager! WTF

Sound is muffled, like played through a scarf, mic is always on. There's no way to change the audio device in in-game settings.

Any idea how to override Destiny 2's audio override?

Huh, that is a long thread. 99% of what was proposed for other headsets do not work for Sennheiser 4.5 BTNC, but one of them seems to be working - disabling voice chat in the game settings. TY for linking the thread!

Sorry to resurrect the topic, but I found a fix for a couple of headsets that I think will work for you in any program, not just Destiny. For me, this also removed the "Hands-free" device from the Sound Control Panel entirely.

  1. Go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printers (Alternatively, there is a link to devices and printers at the bottom of the Bluetooth settings)
  2. Right Click your device and select Properties
  3. Select the Hardware tab
  4. Look for the Device Functions related to that low quality mode (for the two headsets I tested, both were listed as Hands-Free) and select one.
  5. Click Properties, then Change Settings
  6. Select the Drivers tab, then click Disable Device

I would recommend playing some music through your headphones while you are disabling drivers so you can immediately tell if you disabled one you actually need.

Just wanted to say that even in 2021 this post saved my ass. Nothing else fixed the problem except for straight-up disabling everything else.

THIS -

Using Logitech Pro X and every time I alt-tab it would ruin the audio quality until reboot. I couldn't find any options for the headset that did anything at all. If I disable all microphones on the computer it doesn't screw up but that's stupid. After many restarts and much anger I finally checked the actual Bluetooth dongle and disabled both the LE enumerator and the regular Enumerator from the hardware tab. Restarted again and now everything works great. I am hacker man

It is now 2022 and you just saved me from buying a new headset. My airpod max sounded like absolute crap and disabled both those drivers the hands free one and it fixed it immediately

Thanks for this! even if you have another microphone connected it will not use that and use the "hands-free" instead. so annoying

Getting this too. The solution I think works, but now you can't use your headset for work calls etc via normal voice solutions. Really stupid Destiny bug.
