Returning Player, what is the path to start in this?
So I just downloaded the game, beat the little prologue section, got all the dlc for about $20 with a code, but jesus christ, I have no idea what or where to even start. I tried to link my old ps4 account to get my old legacy character back from red war, but that didn't work, so I said screw it and started a new one. I have so much ♥♥♥♥ in these lists that its mind boggling. There is no direction, it just threw me back into the fray after 8 years. Im not sure where to even begin, any suggestions?

Following what the guardian rank thing wants you to do is one way to go.

With the content that's left, it's hard to get an over arching story that makes sense. But you can go into Director>Quests>ThePast and pick one of the 6 dlc and play them one at a time if you are interested in story. That's another way to go.

3rd option might be to get right into grinding if you are just looking to get back to top gear score. unlock vanguard and crucible asap, grab bounties, and grind that. but that doesn't sound like like what a returning player would be back for. Same with just diving into latest season specific content. just focus on that tab and do all the missions and challenges related to latest season.

Oh and I guess there's a midway option, and that's probably my suggestion.

Jump over the DLCs (some of them are mostly junk procedural grinds, like Shadowkeep in particular) and just start playing The Final Shape. It's the most recent major thing, has a decent story, cool big final fight, new prismatic class. It has it's own tab in the quest log, just follow along there and that should get you reacquinted with the game.

While you do that, I would still keep an eye out of whatever is required to progress your guardian rank (journey tab, 2 tabs left of inventory, then go into "view rank progress"). Those are things you can often do at the same time as other stuff, and generally guides you to make sure you are exposed to the major mechanics. Plus it's the number that shows everyone how much of a noob you are, so it's nice to work on it ;)

Yeah, I mean I haven't experienced any of the dlcs, so I'm not quite sure where to start, but if the guardian ranks are the most appropriate then that's what Ill do. Thanks for the suggestions.
