Question about gear

Whenever I kill enemies or do public events and pick up new armor/weapons, I see that they have higher power levels than my current ones, so I scrap my old stuff and equip the new gear

Is this how you're supposed to do it, just constantly be scrapping armor (and weapons) and equipping new ones? It feels like kind of a waste since I upgrade all of my armor and weapons with enhancement cores and stuff.. only to scrap them for betters one a while later

pretty much this. The trick is to NOT upgrade stuff until you get to softcap, so you're not wasting mats. Part of the new player experience is learning when and what to upgrade and what gear is worth keeping.

You can consume new armor with higher power level to increase the power level of your current gear. Idk, but you must know this after 300 hours. You need just compare common stat, if your current gear have better overal stat or traits on weapon, then you consume new higher power level gear to increase your current power level of gear.

The power lv r mean to be the damage output and ur def again mob in pve

in the early game i think u shouldnt focus to much on power instead look at the stat (like resilence(really importance to max to me ) and any stat that work with ur build like disciple for warlock or strenght for titan) because the sooner u has good stat the earlier u become strong and about the power level u can use the uprade orb thing i dont remember the name to transfer the power for the old item u use (i recomemend save it for the gear u feel like the stat are great)

If u want to find higher power level gear just put on everything has highest power level to your guardian and go in some mode like gambit or pvp because these mode are end real quick and alway drop gear after finish no matter win or lose and these mode will drop some exotic engram(9 game per weak give 3 exotic engram and work with all character u create which 9 free exotic per weak) , pinacle engram, exotic weapon catalyst . Trust me from 1990 to 2040 are really pain in the a@@ so u dont need to worry about that early
