Destiny is fun but it handles its narrative horribly.

I have friends who always wanted to get in to the game because they think the story is interesting but give up the moment i tell them that the game had most of its story content removed and that you have to watch hours upon hours of YouTube videos.
While i can kinda tolerate watching YouTube videos of past seasons to get the story most people don't want to do that.
The games short summaries of previous seasons in the Timeline is garbage.
And the campaigns are just a fraction of the full story despite being the main selling points of each expansion. Not to mention the game loves making you play strikes or content wo any context potentially spoiling future events.
And speaking of spoilers who actually thinks that forcing players to watch or play the first cut-scenes or missions of latest expansions or seasons is a good idea the game literally FORCES spoilers on to new players.
I cant tell if its the marketing at fault who just assumes people don't care about story and just want the new thing as son as possible but this contradicts the fact how much actual story and lore and character development this game has.

destiny has genuinely the worst storytelling i've ever seen out of a video game. they shorten and compress everything into such 'garbage marvel action movie' level plots and scenes that it just loses all excitement. in fact, i think if i hadn't helped dozens of noobies through campaigns, i could probably remember a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ marvel movie better than i could remember any bit of destiny's main campaigns because they are an unmatched snoozefest save for a few moments, the number of which i could count on one hand. one star

I was ironically more invested in the seasonal stories i watched on YouTube and even the current seasonal stories than main campaign stories. The post campaign missions are also somewhat ok.
