But it'd help if forums like these had some way for easy, temporary notices like server downtimes to be shown in a small area at the top of the forum, *with* each person's timezone taken into account. It'd save *so* much headache.

It's the same every Tuesday...sometimes it's longer...sometimes it's shorter. But there will be downtime on Tuesday morning (PST). It's not really a hard concept to grasp.
