Deliberate grind
I will say one thing for this narrow minded, pathetic little company

They are very, very, very good at creating grind where it really is not necessary.

Crystocrene armour

Now done about 15 public events all heroic and killed about 5 brigs, 2 pieces of sodding Europa armour in 4 days, I eman what on earth in the bloody point of that, you KNOW if I did not have a quest active requiring it, it would be more common

I mean really Bungie, is this really the limit of your grind?

Killing HVTs is much better than public events. Farm HVTs and you will get the armor/weapons consistently. Not to be rude but you created the "grind" here by doing a very unoptimized strat.

Yeah ... kill the Brigs. (or other high value targets). Those have a much higher chance to drop armor (or Europa specific weapons).

And do the two weekly quests Variks gives.

I have been unable to find many of them, this week they seem to appear very very rarely

Well, there are other high value targets as well, although the Brigs tend to stick out more. I seldom go to Europa without seeing a Brig or two.

Heroic Patrols and even the Empire Hunts probably have higher drop rates too.

There are quests available that provide a full set of armour, if you chose not to keep that armour you only have yourself to blame. There have been seasonal/expansion quests/triumphs/challenges requiring specific armour sets dating at least as far back as Shadowkeep and that was a full content year before Beyond Light.

And as I've said before, it's entirely possible that you can complete the quests by just using Universal Ornaments (of the Crystocrene armor). I'm not positive, but it does work fairly often for stuff of that nature. (My recollection is that you can get the increased IB rep simply by wearing IB ornaments for example).

At time of the Shadowkeep and BL launches, transmog was not in the game so I am 99% sure that does not work.

Mmm, I suppose you've got a point about the timeline, but you are making an assumption about what the quest code is actually looking at.

IF it's just looking at what you look like, then it's quite possible that the transmog system would work, despite being a more recent addition. There's been quite a few times when I wore a Transmog set and ended up getting credit for something that I wasn't expecting, times when simple visual appearance shouldn't have had an impact but did.

I suppose the only way to be sure is to test it. I do have ONE piece of the Crystocrene armor transmoged, and I think I still have ONE unfinished quest for Variks ... pretty sure it's an annoying one though (I think it's finishers during hunts). If I have the time I'll give it a try, we'll see.

(Although frankly, it's quite likely that the OP will simply have managed to acquire a full set of actual gear long before I get around to it).

If an objective requires kills then transmog typically works and I believe activity completions objectives also work (such as the Queen's Bounties from Dreaming City. What transmog doesn't work for are set bonuses as those are intrinsic to the armour pieces themselves.
