Ah neat, then.. Yeah.. 1 arbalest to drop shield, saves you a ton of ammo and time.
Rockets (specifically bait and switch rockets) are the current meta, but let me tell you as someone that sherpas raids quite a bit, people can and will fumble with rockets and if you aren't landing every rocket and doing bait and switch rotations correctly, you're gonna be sitting around after a damage phase with zero ammo, boss at 2/3 hp, wondering why that one youtuber lied to you about this "god-roll rocket" one-phasing.
Linear fusions rifles (LFR), while nerfed back at Lightfall release, are still very good and more friendly to newer players as you won't lose a ton of damage missing a single rocket. They have lots of ammo, good total damage, good dps, and often have ammo generation perks (triple tap/fourth times the charm). The optimal LFR is Cataclysmic from Vow, but if you aren't comfortable farming a raid yet, other solid options that I'm pretty sure are currently easy to obtain are Taipan (requires Witch Queen ownership) and Doomed Petitioner (requires Season of the Wish ownership).
Edit: Forgot to mention Sleeper Simulant, an exotic LFR currently obtained from the Monument to Lost Lights. Hits like a truck, needs the catalyst to really shine though.
Edit 2: Also forgot to mention Leviathan's Breath (also comes from the Monument). An exotic heavy bow that is pretty similar to an LFR in how it's used. Really good DPS, maxes out its own ammo reserves with the catalyst, and it's fun to use imo.
There are some bosses where you just aren't gonna have a great time hitting precision hits (Rhulk, Nezarec, Taniks, etc.), unless someone uses Divinity. In those situations you would be better off with a rocket. If you aren't able to farm out a bait and switch rocket like Cold Comfort ( Ghosts of the Deep dungeon) or Apex Predator (Last Wish raid), then basically any adaptive or aggressive frame rocket with a decent damage perk is gonna perform good enough for you as long as you land your shots.
I might be crucified for doing this, but let me tell you, MACHINEGUNS GET THE JOB DONE WHEN YOUR TEAM IS STRUGGLING. Whenever I'm sherpaing and the group is struggling with dps, I tell people to whip out Thunderlord. Is it top tier dps? No. Can a dog with a trackpad use it well? YES. Another decent machinegun that isn't an exotic is Retrofit Escapade (Season of the Seraph), but that's not current content so it would require a bit of work to get a good roll or craft one.
