There is seasonal content missing from between the expansions though. Those were smaller story content drops that told side stories or fleshed out certain things. Why do we have Cabal allies, why is the Moon haunted, whatever happened to Rasputin, etc. The most important bits do get covered in the campaign intros though.
Shadowkeep is effectively the start of the story arc that The Final Shape finishes.
But yeah, it's nowhere near the 'full' story that players who have been with the game throughout its lifespan have experienced.
yeah basically. if it helps, shadowkeep really is an ok starting point. i feel like it just needs the addition of the red war final cutscene so we can see when the black fleet saw us. otherwise shadowkeep is the first time we really begin the current story around The Witness and the pyramid ships. would it be better to have the beginning of the game? yes. undoubtedly so. can you still enjoy the current story? also yes
