How would you improve the game?
Many worries about ther game aside, there are things which deserve to be added or improved/reworked/fixed.

What do you wish would happen in the game?

I would pull a "team fortress hostage dev" and have one guy locked in a fixed place to work on the old game build and eventually release "Destiny 2: Classic" with the removed campaigns. As a separate game, ofc. Like WOW Classic, you get the idea.

build a time machine and go back and not let Sony buy it...
I would ban all cheaters.

Update Gambit to have more maps and new rewards. Also, include a section in-game to give players information on various support topics (such as how to report players) and any upcoming maintenance.

And besides, that's cosmetic. Adding and/or removing cosmetics doesn't improve or worsen the game. It may improve or worsen your character's look, but not the game.
Honestly, Helldivers 2 style content for Destiny - Drop into a procedural generated area of a planet using already created assets from D1 and D2, have a main objective, 3 optional, and a few hidden with special triggers. then this escalates to a primary scenario based on choice of the team based on actions at the objective - complete success to total failure weighs on this final outcome and how easy or hard it can be, and the drops scale with the skill of the player based on these objectives as metrics for that scenario.

A specific, linear power increase system:
When you start a new character, you start at 0.
Doing campaigns gets you to 200.
Doing strikes, crucible, and gambit gets you to 300.
Doing Nightfalls, dungeons, and competitive PvP gets you up to 350.
Raids, Legend/Master Nightfalls, and solo dungeons get you up to 380.
Trio or lower raids, Duo or Solo GMs, and flawless dungeons get you to 400.

And the idea is that each of these completions ups you like 5 or so Light Level, so you can easily hit max in a single week. Each DLC you could decay back down to 300, with legend campaign getting you to 365. No RNG, just straight "do the stuff", from the beginning to end, seeing all D2 has to offer.

More dungeons and more raid.
Seriously D2s stronger aspect is the raids, hands down, but they drip feed raids so hard.

Also i would love a campaign mode where you can opt to play the entire D2 story from start to finish and you jsut download parts of the story as you go along, so you can go back, do all teh crap in the zones you want, and get the full narrative experience.

Also i would love it if they allowed us to have the first 2 slots of our weapons be either kinetic or kinetic. So if you want you can take 2 kinetic weapons or 2 energy weapons.

Another one is i would love for them to go mad lad and say that you can take either an exotic Power or special weapon, AND a exotic primary weapon.

Like just get wild with it, the entire point of the game is to be a power fantasy, let us play that to the fullest, them throwing their hands up and going yolo prismatic was great.

Not so much a "drip feed" thing as it is that nobody does raids. If they stopped doing campaigns and put that effort into a second raid each DLC, I'd be on board, but 97% of players wouldn't, and that's why we get 1 raid a year. If Vesper's Host is any indication, they're trying to make Dungeons a sort of "tide you over" in between raids, because next year it seems we're only getting 1 of each.

I really think making raids mandatory for leveling would spike up interest in them and therefore give them more reason to keep making them at a high pace.

The problem is that your delusional and get discussions about the game which go in a way that you dont like deleted. Raids are at a dead end and has been for years. People aren't interested in doing hours on end to figure out the mechanics of them, for every little step.
As easy as that!!!
Infact, everything you have written so far about the game is just straight bs. Gamers want to shoot the stuff, get the stuff. Bungie never cared about raids to develop a learning curve for each raid, it was always, "you figure this one out".
Thats not very interesting to the majority of playerbase, and making raids mandatory in some way isn't going to force people into watching youtube videos and guides to learn how to do them. And to begin with this is the least issue of d2. D2 is very buggy.
But you wouldn't understand that, because your head isn't in the game. Your stuck in the what could have been. A fantasy of your own.

Even last night i had to quit a game, because my hunter wouldnt stop firing, disconnect input device, still the same - it was just the game. The game needs bug fixing and new engine more then anything.
And even that may be too late by now.

I could make a big old list of improvements, but it would mean Bungie letting go of the "play the game the way we want you to play the game mantra". They won't drop that bone, so why bother?

Take the game away from Bungie and put it into the hands of the Helldivers 2 devs.

This. Also I'm pretty sure less than or around only 20% of the player base has touched or completed a single raid, so making max level locked behind content less than a quarter of the player base actually interacts with is so damn dumb it's comical. I don't want to sound rude, but it's such a terrible idea. Leveling in this game is so pointless and it's a relic of an older era of the game and should just be outright removed at this point. Most activities already scale you down -5 or more depending on activity, so why have power at all anymore? All it does is waste your time, make you scramble for pinnacles to level up things you already had leveled up, and waste more of your time if the pinnacles that do drop aren't even for the slot you need it in. At a point getting pinnacle armor is just an auto-dismantle because I have more weapons than armor to level up. And with the upcoming rework to armor that'll probably increase the amount of re-farming I'll have to do to keep my stats in a way that won't drive me insane.

Not just a balance issue, would probably also cause a landslide of bugs and issues, a hornet's nest Bungie will never kick.
