I have never played Destiny. I created a new character, but for some reason the game gave me a character with a power level of 1900. Is this normal? And why is that?

That is simply the power floor. It's currently the lowest possible power level. Bungie has been increasing how powerful we can be over the years, and this is where we are right now. The soft cap is 1960, the powerful cap is 2010, and the pinnacle cap is 2020; there's some bonus info for you.

1900 is basically lvl 0 cause you dont get to play from completely 0 anymore due to scaling reasons etc + it would take you years/months to get from power level 0 to 1900-2020+

As others have said, 1900 is equivalent to 0.
It's not relevant 99.9% of the time, but there is a 21 light class item you can equip to fall below 1900, allowing you to instantly die to any damage, which is used VERY rarely in some speedruns.

maybe u can grab 2010 from collections or visit banshee or finish some campaign quests

yo should rise in power level quickly and i don't think the Game is dead. Just see if yo like it

saying that it'll take you years iis exagerating, going from 1900 to 1960 (soft cap) is kinda straightforward just play the game and loot everything, from there you'll get stuck but not much you will need powerful engram which can drop almost everywhere, up to 2010 (hard/powerful cap) from there things will get hard as from now on you'll only need pinnacle gear to level up, and pinnacle gear drops weekly from certain activities (weekly featured raids/dungeons, pathfinder, weekly missions (exotic, campaign, special missions)) and it has a very low chance to drop elsewhere, until you hit the pinnacle cap (current max) which is 2020.

D2 franchise is dying same content every year another exotic mission a raid you’ll do once and content that isn’t worth your time you get nothing for doing raids and dungeons find another game
