Why do you play destiny?
Some people might take this as an insult, so let me first address this is out of genuine curiosity.
I recently came across a video on youtube (this one if you must know) and I thought to my self, this is also the reason why I play (although I'd enjoy playing with friends), but why doesn't the narrative seem that important to most people in the community? Do most people NOT play for the narrative? If so what do people play for?

What do you play for?

Shooting baddies in the face and loot. Story to me is just a bonus.
The loot chase. I'm a gun slut. Borderlands, Division, Destiny, don't care, inject that ♥♥♥♥ right into my veins.
I like playing as a Space Hero with magic powers and general combat gameplay is fun when Bungo isn't making annoying and/or unfair missions/objectives.
It's the best game for looters.

No other game really has been even attempting to compete with it. Nothing like raids, like contest mode, like D2 buildcrafting. Therefore I keep playing D2, because no other game has even made an effort to take my interest.

I like to shoot things with my minigun. That is it.
i play destiny because its the only good loot shooter there is the other games are just complete garbage i mean yeah destiny isnt great either but its the best of all the awful loot shooters that exist
Iron Banner, Gambit and Crucible.

That's... literally it.

I absolutely despise season passes, and gating new content behind them is a surefire way to ensure I will never spend a cent on your company. A friend bought me enough of the game that I could easily enjoy it with him and help him grind out exotic missions; beyond that, I found the story to be needlessly stretched out and tedious to grind through. Gambit is the only PvE in the game that I truly, unconditionally enjoy. It and IB/crucible are casual enough that I can log in once in a blue moon, have some fun shooting people around corners with Fighting Lion, and generally enjoy a bit of no-consequences PvP for a few days before remembering how badly I need a good PvP MMORPG to properly scratch the itch.

Couldn't care less about the overarching narrative, unless they make the story free again and de-gate everything. I play games for fun. I largely avoid value extraction mechanics.
Crucible, Iron Banner, and Trials of Osiris.

I get this weird feeling that most of the people that play the game dont even like it that much.

I don't. The gameplay is the best first person shooter gameplay out there, but I cant with the rest of the game. Nothing makes sense due to vaulting & everything feels so pointless. Also game design wise a lot is flawed
