Is Destiny 2 worth it as a brand new account in 2025?
Alright, I'm going to try to make this first part brief so I can at least give some background to why I'm posting here.

My brother and I have been around since Destiny 1. After Destiny 2 launched, we played right up to the point where the Blizzard launcher transfer over to Steam happened. Long story short, we had stopped playing at the time and lost our accounts because we didn't transfer them. We lost everything.

We left the game completely after being pissed off at the time (even though it was our fault for not keeping up with the game). Sometime, I believe a little after Shadowkeep? (My timeline could be off), we decided to download and try again with the free to play, only to realize that when we got back on, they had removed a bunch of content including campaigns, etc, which just upset us even further, so we left... again.

Now, that brings us to today. We haven't played again since then but we saw the decent sale going on right now for The Light & Darkness Collection until the beginning of April. We've been doing some research on it, but I wanted to post here to hopefully get some insight directly from the people currently playing Destiny 2 now.

I tend to be a completionist when I play games so it would maybe be nice to also hear some insight with that in mind too. I used to love chasing seals, badges, other titles, etc.

I would also want to 100% the game for the ACHIEVEMENTS too. Still possible?

But yeah, what do you all think? My brother and I would both be starting completely fresh. Brand new accounts. We would love to hear your input. Thanks!

Yeah, especially if you have another player to help you in missions. With the L&D collection, you'll have access to everything except 4 dungeons (which are totally skippable, only buy those if you REALLY want). This means you have access to probably hundreds of hours of stuff to do, and can play all the campaigns from start to finish. They've been doing the bundle for that exact reason, it's a REALLY good way to get new/returning people in.

Also, the steam achievements DO still work, and although sometimes there are reports of buggy unlocks, the actual conditions are able to be completed. And for in-game achievements, they've been adding Seals far more often these past few years, to the point where every big thing gets its own title. Dungeon? Title. Raid? Title. Season? Title. Planet? Title. Even EVENTS have titles. That department has improved a LOT post Shadowkeep.

Probably not, that collection isn't even all the current content, you'll need to shell out extra for the dungeons and the newest expansion and the season pass. Plus be prepared for a confusing tutorial and a rank up system that gates your basic progression, and I think it's bugged. It's convoluted, doesn't teach enough. There's better co op or MMO type games to play with your buddy

The best way I know to find out, is install it and do the free to play content.
There are two campaigns that are free to play, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light.
There is a dungeon and I think two RAIDs that are free as well as most of the PvP, the PvE playlist and Gambit. There should be plenty to find out if you think the game is worth playing.
None of us can tell you for certain, because we are not you and not all agree on this.

They haven't even announced if the seasons will be paid... literally telling a new player a hypothetical as fact lmao
If you think to spend money on this, please don't.
Buy flowers for your parents to make them happier on those money.
Do not feed greedy people who don't care about their audience
