New play - where to start?
Played D1 back in the day.

Just bought all the DLCs, playing with a friend and we're starting fresh. Where would you suggest to start as with everything it can get overwhelming.

Cheers

I would start with beyond light and light fall to at least get stasis and strand. Then whatever floats yer boat.

I would suggest to just play the stories at witch queen, beyond light, and the recent one, then get off. Most of the time i get on i get nowhere, the game is for streamers. If you aren't grinding 30-40 hours a week it's pointless. It's been pretty miserable ever since witch queen.

Follow the Story line.
If you will play game for content you will mix everything.
Stasis and Strand abilities you will get as part of story line.

start with shadowkeep as i think that is the earlist story campain that is still around. then beyond light, witchqueen, light fall and final shape. in that order
Now then... From the beginning.

...And by that it's best to start out with either Witch queen or Beyond Light. Shadow keep is optional due to it being the only expansion that was near forsaken before that got vaulted.
From a story standpoint you start from shadow keep, beyond light, witch queen, lightfall then final shape.

If you just wanna have fun the witch queen campaign is probably your best bet for a all round fun time with your buddy.

Or you can just wing it and play any expansion you think you'll might like best first.
Though I wouldn't recommend starting out with final shape first because... that's just reading the final chapters of a book without understand how the setting went to the final chapters.
Also there's a lot of spoilers that'll be ruined if you all you want is to get prismatic first.
Not a lot. But the more interesting tidbits of the some characters will cause you to want to know more about them.

If you want a miniature version of a campaign you go to dungeons.
With the fireteam finder being handy. You can now traverse and learn all the different mechanics of each dungeon... you should probably start out with shattered throne as your first if your getting into things cause it's the easiest to go through.
Just make sure you bring a flashlight or turn up the brightness as it will be very dark through the dungeon.

These are just suggestions at the end of the day. So you pick and decide what you and your friend what to go through.
Just don't go picking Legend mode on your first run.
Cause only those that played hard mode campaigns before will learn what to do on the first run. :MCCLEGENDARY:

Storyline order purism:
Cayde's Death mission > Dreaming City missions > Shattered Throne > Last Wish > Shadowkeep (Moon)> Pit of Heresy > Garden of Salvation > Duality > Prophecy > Beyond Light (Europa) > Deep Stone Crypt > Witch Queen (Throne World) > Vow of the Disciple > Sundred Doctrine > Spire of the Watcher > Lightfall (Neomuna) > Root of Nightmares > King's Fall > Ghosts of the Deep > Final Shape (Pale Heart) first 7 missions > Salvation's Edge > Excision > Echoes > Revenant > Heresy

Skip anything you don't own / don't want to do, but maaaybe read what happens in those missions for continuity.

After that, just do Guardian Ranks and assorted quests you missed.

I think it usually started with the red war as vanilla campaign, alot of story is removed leading up to the point where you will start nowadays, probably due to in favor of mp later content, which is a bad thing for story followers but thats unfortunatedly where games are at today

I can't get past guardian lvl 3, stuck on a quest where I need to speak to the angry black bald chick to get a quest however she does not offer it...
Just start with the main game and then give beyond light a shot
