Play your way *except for sword/melee only builds*
Bungie, I love you. Seriously...I love your game and ive been playing since forsaken, I have over 2 million kills nearly 4k hours spent in game, please for the love of god, stop putting in mechanics that are not melee friendly. I'm skilled at the game but sadly I am a one trick pony (not ashamed of it). I'm a titan stronghold main who knows most to all tricks involving sword play but you keep putting in these mechanics where you have to match the rune and can only cause damage from afar. I am completely useless in this activity.

I know I know, git gud...but I am a mostly solo no clan player, who oddly likes randomly grouping with people in a auto-queue fireteam finder system even though I am pretty anti-social.

I like to tank I like to get into the bosses face and stomp lock him while I laugh and my team decimates him from afar. I've never been into doing the most damage, I have always been a fan of one who controls the battlefield. Please Bungo, stop putting in these types of mechanics, or at least give us some sort of way to deal damage, even if that involves giving us a temporary buff once we go to the desired rune. As someone who wants to tank and not deal out the most damage, I still want to contribute to damage in boss fights or group activities.

I long suspected D2 in reality isn't the game for me, I know it's a shooter and meant to be played that way but the game play and movement in combat just feels so good and keeps bringing me back.

Anyone else frustrated by the mechanics? I know they aren't bad, it's just annoying that this game I hold so dear has so much content where my specific play style is completely useless and it feels bad.

Please note I am not saying this game sucks, complete opposite, just trying to open up a dialog.

I am a Hunter main, and I love my swords, but seriously, try other weapons where needed, over time you will get better at it. You could try a caster sword.

An experience from someone who also plays a Titan(Void)...

Before Lightfall, the gleve or sword was also one of my favorite weapons.

now that everything has gotten a bit more difficult and I'm dying faster than I think, I've changed my playstyle a bit.

As a Titan, I try to protect and revive my team while I take care of the many smaller targets that prevent us from reaching the actual goal.

the super to clear the field, barricade to protect and revive.

I currently use
Primery Scout or a Pistol(Anti Barrier)
Secondary Graviton Lance or Attuned Choir
Heavy a Machine Gun(Overcharge Champions)

unfortunately I have to say...I'm not one of the better ones and I just try to do my best.

a saying comes to mind, sometimes you give everything but in the end it's not enough.

greetings
Ralf

Haha yea, play it your way. Then they add champions and specific ways to kill them.

I run The Lament for Barriers, vroom sword just feels so good.

But when I'm not running Lament for my exotic weapon, I'm always running a crafted glaive with nearly maxed shield duration, or another sword with decent block stats. My Prismatic Titan build is all about CC through strand grenade and Stasis super, plus diamond lance for extra CC as needed, and leveraging Unbreakable shield to get decent overshield and force aggro onto me from bosses.

Before Final Shape, I ran Stasis for the longest time, still focusing hard on CC with duskfield grenade and diamond lances.

My skill is lacking too, I can't really effectively solo dungeons or (legend)lost sectors, but I don't build for that, I build to support and tank. I'm confident if I had more skill and better reflexes, I could make it work on almost all content aside from Raids.

The rune plates in CoB are TERRIBLE, and it's not an active anti-melee choice. Almost everything in the game allows for you to play at super close range, but the rune plates have such a tight area/timing and the bosses are so far away that even some moderately-ranged abilities (Consecration) can't hit the boss. Can't thundercrash, can't Tractor the boss. Bungkle doesn't punish melees as a general rule, it's just that the rune plates were only ever used in activities where the boss was made of paper (Salvage) and doesn't work well for CoB.
I don't mind swords.
But as of now swords are in a position where they're only used for their utility rather than dealing lots of damage.

Cause if your sword doesn't make you move faster or can clear hordes of enemies very quickly without you dying very quickly from being up close...
Yeah I can see where you coming from as power creep is a b****.

I main as a Stasis Titan.
I throw glacier grenade. Shoot wall then things go boom around enemies while healing from tectonic harvest from stasis shards that track me when I get up close.
I prefer to have the increased slide distance and speed fragment as it allows me to slide kick into the wall so that I can get the shards and feel like I did some flashy move against enemies. (It also allows me to falcon kick or rider kick on the ground if someone is frozen in both pve and pvp should I get the chance.)

My prefer'd weapons of choice while using Stasis are:
-Khvostov 7G-02 (Cause I Be throwing and shooting a lot of enemies. Attrition Orbs helps as bonuses when dealing with more bullet spongey enemies or bosses.)
-Albedo Wing (Maxed out range. Has Beacon rounds so that when I guard for reduced damage I can still manage to consistently hit enemies when it's locked on, and with Lead from gold because so that I still have a way to get ammo when I'm out of ammo.)
-Truth (3 rockets. Auto lock on. Maximum blast radius. Always Detonates when close to anyone. The Truth never misses. It just took the scenic route.)

Never used the stronghold but I would be lying to say I didn't use protective ward when doing a finisher as the option of close range is good but risky if you have no insurance.
My Favorite Exotic Titan armor piece is the Armamentarium for both Destiny 1 and 2.
Because I'm a simple guy.

I was disappointed to find out arc titan was not allowed to have three arcbolt grenades.
