134 GB OMG..

Sad thing is I've tried the game again recently and it just feels like the same thing over and over. The death animations for enemies give me no satisfaction because the feel to the game is the same when it first launched.. Thought I'd give it another try but damn, 134 GB!?

All major games these days are about that size due to the high amount of content, visuals and other reasons. You can't have a lot of content, fantastic visuals and low file size, that's just not possible.

The high file size is exactly one of the reasons why Bungie removed year 1 content from the game. If they didn't remove any of the year one content from the game, the file size would be 200 GBs or more! I'm glad they did that since it helped reduce the file size and load times significantly.

The current file size it a little annoying, but at least it means there is a lot in the game to keep you busy for numerous hours (there is!) and you only need to download it once. Destiny 2 is an excellent game and worth the few hours it takes to download 😁

god forbid they optimize and compress, plenty of games out there with more content and 3 times smaller file size, while looking and running better.

How does Warframe have more content and look so good then? Warframe is like 45 gigs.

Warframe has quite good compression and optimization ( most files are compressed both as a whole and individually ) while also doing huge file size "crunches" quite often.

It's also reusing a LOT of assets in clever ways ( D2 does as well but not to this extent ) and thus saving a lot of space. For example ; The Jetpacks of some enemies consist of 4 glued together shotguns, ship generators are the generic resource model but upscaled etc.

On top of this it's using quite a bit of procedural generation and doesn't participate in the "ultra-high-fidelity-graphics arms race" that most games nowadays follow. It also doesn't have like a million fully voiced missions since Audio files are actually quite huge and take up a lot of D2s size.

All of this combined with the game being designed to not need to load a lot of stuff at the beginning of a mission is how Warframe can keep the file size much smaller than D2.

Content drops in Warframe are much smaller though and usually consist of 1 new weapon +- 1 new frame and a rehashed mission but it added up to having quite a lot of them in-game. This wasn't meant to downplay Warframe's content, merely to differentiate it from D2 yearly/quarterly content drops.

The one thing i really love in Destiny and miss in Warframe though, is the extraordinary level design. It's amazing how beautiful the background, skyboxes etc. can be in a lot of D2 locations and activities. Running and climbing around a space station ( DSC-Raid ) or hive ship with an open hangar ( KF ) is just something else.

Warframe isn't built on a 17+ yr old engine built for and optimized to run on consoles....

LOL Warframe is made on the evolution Engine wich first iteration is Dark Sector (2008 ) from 17 + years ago the diference is that DE seems to have veeery good software engineers that keep updating the engine year after year not just on features on optimization , blow my mind how even they implemented on warframe stuff that they made for soulframe like the last shadder system and hair

instead on Bungie seems that all the people that know the Blam Engine left or at least seems that the company have 0 interest for keep improving it Blam- Tiger Engine aged like ♥♥♥♥ and is not a good engine for a live service game that require constant updates of content and features

Bungie is making marathon on this engine again supossedly a vastly improved version ( i will believe it when i see it from the current bungie i not believe ♥♥♥♥ )

Bungie stopped caring about quality in their game years ago (before sunsetting) and it's only gone downhill.
